Therapeutic Lifeguard
Summary:
Monitors activities in pool areas, gym, public space and multi-sensory room to ensure safety, prevent accidents and provides assistance to both individuals of Sunshine and community members by performing the following duties
Job Details:
- Act as a representative for Sunshine and the Aquatics department, maintaining a positive and professional demeanor when interacting with the community and other departments at Sunshine
- Assists with individualized programming for individuals of Sunshine
- Works with other staff and departments in relation to needs and programming in the pool area, gym and multi-sensory room
- Assist with individual transfers in and out of pool
- Cautions swimmers regarding safety and unsafe areas
- Rescues swimmers in danger of drowning and administers first aid and/or CPR as needed
- Maintains order in swimming areas
- Inspects facilities for cleanliness and/or needed maintenance. Maintains the upkeep of pool, locker room, public spaces and multi-sensory room. Completes Helpdesks for needed maintenance in a timely manner
- Assists in completing the inventory and ordering of supplies
- Assists with maintaining pool, gym and multi-sensory room records
- Take reading on chemicals in the pool and documents readings accordingly
- Basic working knowledge and operation of the pool equipment and reports any issues to maintenance and/or CPO when noted
- Instructs Arthritis classes as trained by the approved Arthritis curriculum and completes subsequent documentation for attendance
- Operates and assists to maintain equipment in the pool, gym and multisensory room. Reports safety concerns or repairs via a helpdesk
- Participates in team meetings and trainings as scheduled
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Red Cross Lifeguard certificate and Red Cross Advanced Rescuer CPR & 1st Aid. Aquatic Arthritis Instructor certification or willingness to attend training and be certified
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
- One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to talk or hear, frequently reach with hands and arms
- Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions
- Frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel
- Occasionally exposed to blood borne pathogens
- Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
