We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Information Technology to lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of our technology infrastructure and operations. Reporting to the CTO, this leader will own Cloud Architecture, IT and Vendor Management, Cybersecurity, IT Governance and Policy, and Employee Technology Experience. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise across Microsoft cloud platforms (M365, Azure, Azure DevOps) and strong operational experience in infrastructure automation, identity management, and cybersecurity. This role will be instrumental in driving the firm’s cloud-first strategy, ensuring operational excellence, and maintaining a secure and scalable technology environment.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Platforms & Infrastructure
- Own the architecture, performance, and scalability of the firm’s cloud-first environment (M365, Azure, Zoom, and key SaaS platforms).
- Working with 1823’s IT partners, administer Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and security/compliance policies.
- Working with 1823’s IT partners, support and maintain networking infrastructure, including firewalls, networking switching and wireless access points.
- Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and backup/restore strategies are properly maintained and tested.
- Partner with development teams—translating infrastructure needs into properly architected Azure, Microsoft 365 solutions.
- Set cloud engineering standards for infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and monitoring.
- Partner cross-functionally to align cloud infrastructure with business needs.
- Manage cloud spend through regular optimization reviews and utilization reporting.
DevOps & Automation
- Implement containerized solutions using Docker or similar where applicable.
- Team with business users to leverage Power Platform, Power Automate, and Copilot Studio for workflow automation and business enablement.
- Build automation solutions using Microsoft technologies (PowerShell, Azure Automation, Logic Apps/Power Automate) to automate routine operational tasks.
- Work with data engineers to build data solutions within the Microsoft ecosystem (Microsoft Fabric, Synapse, SQL, and related services).
IT & Vendor Management
- Lead IT operations spanning networking, endpoints, identity management, and enterprise applications.
- Own the full technology vendor lifecycle — sourcing, negotiation, performance management, and renewal.
- Develop and manage the IT budget with clear forecasting and ROI analysis.
- Set and track SLAs/KPIs for internal service delivery and vendor performance.
Cybersecurity
- Support ongoing risk assessments and remediation efforts aligned with NIST, SOC2 and ISO 27001 frameworks.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration tests; drive remediation.
- Maintain and evolve endpoint protection, vulnerability management, and incident response protocols in collaboration with security operations.
- Work closely with security partners to implement and validate cloud security controls across Azure and Microsoft 365.
- Lead security awareness training and foster a security-first culture organization-wide.
- Stay current on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and regulatory requirements relevant to the financial services sector.
IT Governance & Policy
- Own and maintain policies covering acceptable use, information security, incident response, access control, change management, and business continuity.
- Establish a governance framework that aligns technology decisions with business objectives.
- Maintain and regularly test business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
- Support audits with up-to-date documentation, evidence, and control records.
Employee Technology Experience
- Own the end-to-end employee technology journey — from onboarding provisioning to offboarding.
- Run the IT helpdesk, currently 100% outsourced, driving first-contact resolution and employee satisfaction.
- Collect employee feedback on technology pain points; translate insights into a prioritized roadmap.
- Champion accessibility and inclusivity in all technology decisions.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in IT, with at least 4 years in a leadership role in IT Infrastructure, Systems Engineering, or Cloud Operations roles.
- Deep expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including architecture design, security configuration, and cost management.
- Strong background in cybersecurity principles, frameworks, and incident response.
- Experience with networking (firewalls, switches, wireless).
- Demonstrated experience managing vendor relationships and negotiating technology contracts.
- Working knowledge of administration and SaaS platform management.
- Proven ability to develop and operationalize IT policies, governance frameworks, and compliance programs.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, SOC2, ISO 27001) and practical implementation in regulated industries.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for executive and non-technical audiences.
- Financial services or regulated industry experience is strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed here.
