Position Summary
As part of the Tech24 team and broader Tech24 network, the Senior Hot & Cold Technician serves as a lead field expert in commercial cooking (hot side) and refrigeration (cold side) equipment. This role is responsible for advanced diagnostics, complex repairs, and mentoring junior technicians while ensuring high standards of safety, efficiency, and customer service. The Senior Technician works independently in fast-paced foodservice environments, minimizing downtime and ensuring critical kitchen and refrigeration systems remain fully operational. This is a senior-level , customer-facing role requiring deep technical expertise in commercial kitchen equipment and refrigeration systems - not a traditional residential or light commercial HVAC position.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex commercial cooking equipment including ovens, fryers, steamers, grills, ranges, kettles and combi ovensService and repair commercial refrigeration systems including walk-ins, reach-ins, prep tables, undercounter units, and ice machinesPerform advanced electrical, gas, and mechanical diagnosticsIdentify root cause of recurring equipment failures and recommend long-term solutionsLead major repairs, equipment replacements, and system startupsMentor and support Junior Technicians and apprentices in the fieldEnsure preventative maintenance is completed thoroughly and to company standardsCommunicate clearly with customers regarding system conditions, repair options, and preventative maintenance strategiesAccurately document service calls, parts usage, labor hours, and detailed repair notesManage truck inventory and maintain proper tools and materialsParticipate in on-call rotation and respond to emergency service calls as neededEngage in ongoing technical training to remain current with manufacturer updates and industry advancements
Qualifications
- 5+ years of commercial foodservice equipment and refrigeration service experienceStrong expertise in commercial cooking equipment (gas, electric, steam)Solid refrigeration diagnostic skills (self-contained systems and walk-ins)EPA Universal Certification preferred (required if handling refrigerant) Manufacturer certifications and CFESA credentials are a plusAbility to read and interpret wiring diagrams, service manuals, and technical schematicsValid drivers license with a clean driving record requiredStrong problem-solving and leadership skillsExcellent communication and customer service abilitiesAbility to lift up to 50+ lbs. and work in varying indoor / outdoor conditionsAbility to climb ladders, work from heights, and crawl in tight quartersOwn industry standard hand toolsWillingness to participate in on-call rotation
Compensation Transparency
The advertised pay range for this position is $30-$40 per hour. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience level, technical certifications, specialized expertise, and overall qualifications. Candidates with advanced commercial cooking equipment and refrigeration experience, manufacture certifications, CFESA, or leadership experience may be considered at the higher end of the range.
