Job Description: LDLS Mechanical Engineer InternLocation: This position is onsite and is based in Wilmington, MAPosition Summary:We are looking for a dynamic, energetic Mechanical Engineering Coop/Intern who is looking to apply their knowledge of mechanical components to improve manufacturing processes within the LDLS Division. You will be working closely with the LDLS Operations and Engineering teams.
The primary summer project will focus on the continuous improvement of the LDLS product line. There is also expected to be light design work to support customer specials and proposals.Key Responsibilities:Direct support to the Change Management team which involves performing changes to existing engineering documentation as well as creating new documentation.Collaboration with the manufacturing and engineering teams on process and design improvements.Learn how to apply technical knowledge to improve product designs in real-world scenariosRelease of documentation through the ECO process.Provide light design support for customer specials and proposals as needed.Minimum Requirements:Junior or Senior working towards a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.Solidworks experience required with the ability to create and edit parts, assemblies and drawings.Solidworks PDM experience desirable but not required. Training will be provided.Experience with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.Ability to use basic hand tools.Comfortable working cross-functionally in a dynamic work environment.Ability to explore different solutions to problems.Clear communication skills, both verbal and written.Ability to work independently.Self-motivated with the ability to drive projects according to plan.Occasional work in a cleanroom environment will require the wearing of PPE.Ability to acquire new skills and knowledge with minimal guidancePreferred Qualifications:Experience with SolidWorks PDM or other product data management systems.Previous internship, co-op, or hands-on project experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.Familiarity with engineering change processes (ECO/ECN).Exposure to design for manufacturability (DFM) or process improvement initiatives.Experience working with cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing, operations).Basic understanding of mechanical systems, tolerancing, and drawing standards (GD&T is a plus).Strong attention to detail, especially in documentation and design updates.Interest in continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).
The compensation hourly rate for this role is $20/hr. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
