About Humane Society of North Texas
Founded in 1905, the Humane Society of North Texas is the oldest animal welfare organization in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. HSNT serves animals in need by providing services such as pet adoptions, spay/neuter surgeries and low-cost vaccinations, returning lost pets to their owners, cruelty investigations and humane euthanasia. We operate two pet adoption centers in Tarrant County as well as PetSmart and PetCo Cat Adoption Centers and an equine ranch located in Johnson County.
The Role: Part Matchmaker, Part Life-Saver
As an Adoption Counselor, you aren't just doing paperwork—you are the bridge between a lonely pet and their forever home. You’ll report to our Adoptions Supervisor and spend your days making families whole.
What You’ll Be Doing (The "Nitty-Gritty")
- Animal Advocacy: You’ll be the voice for our residents, feeding, monitoring, and even performing minor medical treatments to keep them healthy.
- The Ultimate Matchmaker: You’ll guide prospective pet parents through the adoption process, helping them find the perfect furry (or feathered!) fit.
- Educator Extraordinaire: You’ll teach the public about responsible pet ownership and all the awesome programs HSNT offers.
- Keeping Things Spick and Span: Daily cleaning is part of the gig to ensure our animals have a happy, healthy place to stay.
- Master of Details: From entering data into our pet database to handling the adoption cash drawer, you’ll keep our records as sharp as a kitten’s claw.
- Customer Service Star: You’ll represent HSNT by being the friendly face (and voice on the phone) that our community relies on.
Are You Our "Purr-fect" Candidate?
- Animal Savvy: You have a working knowledge of breeds, behaviors, and how to handle animals with "patience and gentleness".
- People Person: You can stay patient and courteous even when things get a little "ruff" or stressful.
- Team Player: You love working with volunteers and staff to create a positive vibe.
- Adaptable: You can learn new protocols quickly and manage your time like a pro.
- Reliable: You’re there when you say you’ll be—promptness is key to keeping our operations running smoothly.
The Physical Side of the Tail
This isn't a "desk-only" job! You’ll be on the move—standing, kneeling, and reaching. You should be able to lift up to 40 lbs solo (and 80 lbs with a buddy!). You’ll also get used to the "sights and smells" of shelter life, including varying temperatures and some happy, noisy barking.
Ready to start saving lives with us?
This is a non-exempt role that may occasionally require more than 40 hours a week because animals don’t always follow a 9-to-5 schedule!
