The Exus Construction department is seeking a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern for our Summer 2026 intern program out of our corporate HQ Pittsburgh, PA office. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the GIS Manager. This is a paid internship role. Anticipated duration will be approximately 8 weeks from June to August 2026. Duration, start and end dates are flexible to each candidate’s school schedule.
Essential Duties:
- Collect, process, and manage spatial data from various sources, such as satellite imagery, aerial photos, surveys, or public databases.
- Perform spatial analysis and modeling using GIS software and tools, such as ArcGIS, ArcMap, QGIS
- Create and update maps, charts, graphs, and reports to visualize and communicate spatial information and findings.
- Assist in the site selection and suitability assessment of potential renewable energy projects, considering factors such as land use, environmental impact, grid connection, and resource availability.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- An undergraduate Junior or Senior, currently enrolled and attending an accredited college or university
- Willing to be located in Pittsburgh, PA for the duration of the intern program (this is an in-office role)
- Pursuing bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Environmental Sciences, or Related Field
- Demonstrated proficiency with the ArcGIS Suite of Products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise)
- Experience using Python, R, SQL preferred.
- Relational Database Knowledge (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, etc.) is a plus.
Potential Project Scope:
- Regional Level Wind and Solar Suitability Modeling: Create a large scale, repeatable geospatial model to highlight areas of potential Renewable Energy development. Create an accompanying ArcGIS Experience Builder application to share and demonstrate results with resource team.
- Renewable Energy Assessment Tool: Develop a Python or R based toolset to quickly assess renewable energy resource availability at a specific point location using publicly available resources. Implement this tooling into an ArcGIS Experience Builder App or widget.
- Energy Infrastructure Database: Extract and Transform public OpenStreetMap data to create an interconnected database of Energy infrastructure data to host on the Exus ArcGIS Enterprise data platform.
