As a Mammography Assistant at UNC Health Appalachian, you will play an important support role in delivering high-quality breast imaging services. - Compensation: Starting at $18.31 /hour, based on experience, education, and internal equity
- Schedule: Full-time, variable shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

What You’ll Do as a Mammography Assistant
- Assist mammography technologists with patient preparation and workflow support
- Provide non-clinical patient care support, ensuring comfort and safety throughout the imaging process
- Perform clerical duties including scheduling support, documentation, and patient coordination
- Support regulatory and compliance functions within the mammography department
- Prepare rooms, equipment, and supplies for imaging procedures
- Communicate effectively with patients to provide clear instructions and a positive experience
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of imaging areas in accordance with infection control standards
- Collaborate with technologists, physicians, and team members to support efficient operations
- Demonstrate professionalism and alignment with UNC Health Appalachian’s Mission, Vision, and Values
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Knowledge of patient care techniques and medical terminology preferred (e.g., CNA-level training or equivalent experience)
- CNA certification preferred but not required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association required at hire
Skills & Abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to provide safe and effective support within scope of role
- Knowledge of patient care processes and clinical workflow
- Strong customer service skills with a patient-centered approach
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment
Physical & Work Environment
- Continuous standing and walking for ≥ 8 hours per shift
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling ≥ 50 lbs
- Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and reaching
- Continuous hand, finger, and wrist dexterity with close visual attention
- Frequent patient mobilization (> 4 hours per day)
- Exposure to electrical/mechanical equipment and clinical environment hazards
- Infrequent exposure to bloodborne pathogens
- Potential exposure to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation
- Irregular hours including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
