Job Overview:
The Accounting Manager oversees day-to-day accounting operations while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across the Finance Department. Reporting to the Controller, this role provides leadership and oversight to accounting team members, supports the month-end and year-end close processes, and ensures adherence to GAAP and company policies. The Accounting Manager plays a critical role in maintaining financial integrity, improving accounting processes, and developing team capabilities to support organizational growth.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including journal entries, general ledger activity, and account reconciliations.
- Review and approve work completed by accounting team members to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP.
- Manage and support the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Oversee bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Support tax preparation, filings, and compliance with applicable tax laws and deadlines.
- Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to support management decision-making.
- Oversee commission payroll processing and ensure compliance with internal policies.
- Train, onboard, and mentor new accounting team members; provide ongoing coaching and development support.
- Supervise staff and delegate work according to their capacity and skills.
- Review staff work product and provide constructive feedback regarding opportunities for improvement. Deliver formal performance evaluations in accordance with company policies.
- Partner cross-functionally with Finance, HR, and Operations teams to gather, verify, and interpret financial data.
- Support internal and external audits by reviewing documentation and responding to audit inquiries.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability within accounting operations.
- Maintain organized financial records and ensure data integrity within accounting systems.
- Stay current on accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal policy updates.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. (A Masters is Preferred)
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience; leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- CPA Required ! Strong corporate experience without a CPA may be considered.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and accounting best practices.
- Proficiency with NetSuite and advanced Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis) preferred.
- Knowledge of tax preparation and reporting processes.
- Demonstrated ability to review work, train team members, and manage competing priorities.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and analytical skills.
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Experience supporting audits, close cycles, and accounting process improvements in a growing organization.
