The Opportunity
Glass Roots Construction (GRC) was established in 2022 by a team of experienced telecom and construction professionals. We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our team as an Entry-Level Fiber Optic Groundman. This is an excellent opportunity to start a career in the high-growth fiber optic utility construction industry.
We are committed to using the latest technologies and best practices for construction and safety nationwide. This position is a gateway into the field, offering comprehensive on-the-job training to learn the fundamentals of fiber optic construction from the ground up. You will report to the Director of Operations and be a critical part of a rapidly growing firm with significant opportunities for career advancement.
Responsibilities
As a Fiber Optic Groundman, you will receive training and support to perform the following duties:
● Support Field Operations: Assist construction crews with the installation of both aerial and underground fiber optic cabling and pulling cable through conduits.
● Safety and Site Maintenance: Help maintain a safe and clean work environment, organize tools and materials, and learn basic site safety protocols (OSHA/DOT).
● Logistics and Material Management: Assist with loading/unloading materials, transporting equipment, and ensuring the job site has the necessary supplies.
● Documentation Support: Assist supervisors in documenting daily activities, job progress, and maintaining accurate production statuses and statistics.
● Blueprint Introduction: Begin learning to read and follow basic blueprints and technical diagrams under direct supervision to ensure correct installation.
● Equipment Care: Assist in maintaining all equipment (vehicles, tools) in good working condition and report any malfunctions.
● Emergency Response Exposure: Learn the basics of utility locates, route drives, and assist in damage prevention and potential repair situations.
● Cross-Training: Support various construction tasks as directed, with the goal of learning all aspects of fiber optic utility construction.
Required Qualifications
● Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
● Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required for all positions.
● Work Ethic: Must have a strong eagerness to learn, a positive attitude, and a commitment to safety and teamwork.
● Physical Ability: Must be able to perform physically demanding work outdoors in various weather conditions, including lifting, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
● Communication: Strong basic communication skills (written and verbal).
● Problem-Solving: A desire to learn problem-solving and organizational skills.
● Technical Interest: An interest in construction, telecommunications, or technology is a plus.
● Basic Software: Familiarity with basic computer applications (e.g., Google Maps) is helpful but not required.

Compensation range: $18 - $22 Hourly
Target start date: 2-3 weeks from offer
