Position Title: Senior VDC Manager I
Position Location: Location varies by assignment. 75–100% travel across the U.S. unless assigned to an extended project. Must be located near a major US airport.
Job Summary
The Senior VDC Manager I serves as a senior project leader and subject-matter resource supporting digital coordination, BIM/VDC execution, model quality, and multidisciplinary trade alignment across complex construction projects. Acting as a key liaison among project management, design teams, trade contractors, field teams, and client stakeholders, this role helps ensure model-based workflows support project requirements for scope, schedule, constructability, operability, maintainability, and quality.
This position leads VDC/BIM coordination strategy from design through construction and turnover, with particular focus on trade engagement, clash detection, issue resolution, field validation, and model-driven decision-making. The Senior VDC Manager is expected to work directly with project teams and trade partners through later-stage coordination and installation activities, helping drive resolution of field conflicts, model discrepancies, access concerns, routing issues, and constructability constraints before they affect schedule or quality.
The Senior VDC Manager I will be self-directed on day-to-day work and independently performs most responsibilities. Will lead projects, tasks, or assignments of complex scope. Will coordinate activities of other personnel and support the development of standards, workflows, and best practices.
The Senior VDC Manager I will communicate and operate in line with organizational and client goals and values, as well as departmental objectives. This role requires a high level of day-to-day engagement with trade partners, including leading coordination meetings, driving model-based discussions, resolving clashes in real time, and identifying potential RFIs or change drivers resulting from coordination activities.
Essential Functions
Strategic VDC / BIM Leadership
Lead implementation of VDC/BIM workflows across complex construction projects, ensuring alignment with project goals, client expectations, and field execution requirements. Serve as a senior resource for model-based coordination, clash detection, issue management, constructability reviews, and digital collaboration. Drive consistency in model management, coordination standards, file structure, and digital delivery processes across project teams. Support development and continuous improvement of VDC/BIM procedures, reporting tools, templates, and execution practices.
Trade Coordination, Field Integration, and Project Execution
Lead coordination with trade contractors, project management teams, and field personnel to resolve clashes, installation conflicts, and sequencing issues. Facilitate recurring coordination meetings, track action items, drive follow-up, and maintain accountability for issue closure. Perform or oversee field checks to validate model accuracy against installed conditions and confirm alignment between coordinated models and real-world execution. Work closely with trades during later-stage coordination and construction activities to address routing conflicts, access requirements, equipment clearances, and constructability concerns. Support project management teams by identifying coordination risks, tracking resolution progress, and escalating impacts to schedule, quality, and readiness. Leading coordination readiness or signoff meetings for defined areas or systems, providing informed recommendations based on model status, trade input, and field conditions. Design Coordination and Model Population Oversight Review design documents, drawings, and models to identify scope gaps, interface issues, coordination risks, and opportunities for early resolution. Support and guide model population efforts by evaluating model maturity, level of detail, discipline inputs, and timing requirements. Apply understanding of design processes and modeling effort to improve planning, sequencing, and practical expectations for model development. Help translate design intent into effective coordination strategies that support installation feasibility, field usability, and turnover readiness. Digital Tools, Reporting, and Documentation Oversee federated model development and coordination workflows using Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), and related digital platforms. Maintain clash reports, model issue logs, meeting minutes, dashboards, and coordination trackers with clear status reporting and documented next steps. Provide organized and concise updates to project leadership regarding model health, trade participation, issue resolution progress, and coordination readiness. Support document traceability, version control, and digital file management across internal and external stakeholders. Overseeing coordination-related inputs to as built documentation and schedules, ensuring model accuracy, trade alignment, and readiness for turnover and closeout. Leadership, Mentorship, and Continuous Improvement Provide day-to-day guidance to junior staff and project team members supporting VDC/BIM coordination efforts. Promote collaboration, accountability, and disciplined coordination practices across design, field, and trade teams. Identify opportunities to improve digital workflows, reduce manual effort, and enhance coordination efficiency through technology and process improvements. Leverage AI-enabled and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation.

Position Requirements (ADVANCED level for all the following)
Strong working knowledge of VDC/BIM coordination processes, model federation, clash detection, and issue tracking within complex construction environments. Knowledge of industry trends, project management practices, and construction procedures as well as best practices. Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction of mission critical, commercial buildings, or other structures. Knowledge of trade coordination principles and the relationship between design documentation, model development, field installation, and turnover readiness. Demonstrated leadership experience coordinating multiple stakeholders, trade partners, and project participants across complex projects. Skilled in Navisworks and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC/BIM 360) for coordination, clash detection, issue management, model review, and digital collaboration. Skilled in supporting project delivery through trade coordination, meeting leadership, follow-up management, and field verification. Skilled in working directly with trades and field teams to resolve coordination issues later in the construction process. Skilled in reviewing drawings and models for constructability, sequencing, access, maintainability, and installation feasibility. Skilled in clear, concise communication with technical and non-technical audiences, including clients and senior project stakeholders. Skilled in organizing digital documentation, model issue logs, reporting tools, and coordination dashboards. Skilled in mentoring and guiding team members in BIM/VDC workflows and coordination best practices. Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with exceptional organizational skills for file management. Ability to understand model population effort, coordination maturity, and the practical impact of design decisions on constructability and schedule. Ability to identify risks, evaluate complex project issues, and develop practical, data-informed solutions. Ability to work independently with limited supervision and manage competing priorities under pressure. Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation. Ability to follow company and site safety requirements. Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports, and correspondence. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with onsite and remote team members.

Travel Requirements
Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to rent vehicles. 75–100% travel across the U.S. unless assigned to an extended project (>6 months; typical assignments 9 months – 4 years). Ability to relocate within 1–3 months if required (when 100% travel isn’t supported). Effective May 7, 2025, and in accordance with U.S. federal regulations for domestic air travel, a valid REAL ID (or an acceptable alternative, such as a passport) is required for travel associated with this position. Education / Experience
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, digital construction, or related discipline
OR
Two years of hands-on construction, trade coordination, BIM/VDC, design support, or field technology experience
PLUS
Minimum of eight years of additional related experience supporting BIM/VDC, design coordination, construction technology, project delivery, or field coordination activities.
