Summary:The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for investigating problems with different types of motor vehicles, diesel and non-diesel and making repairs accordingly. Their duties include communicating with vehicle owners to discuss their concerns, carrying out routine maintenance procedures on motor vehicles and replacing parts on motor vehicles to promote their functionality. Preform same duties on other diesel engines on the site such as generators.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Mechanics are required to perform a range of duties and responsibilities that can differ from day to day depending on the jobs that they are assigned. This can include anything from routine maintenance work to specialized repairs. Other duties include:
Assess vehicles and/or machinery to accurately diagnose and repair issuesLiaise with department heads and fleet service coordinator to determine their automotive requirements and communicate vehicular defects or problemsProvide routine inspections of vehicles and inform fleet service coordinator of issues.Prepare list of parts and equipment needed to fleet service coordinator to assist with quote and approvalsKeep an accurate log of all work performedMaintain and clean garage equipment and tools to ensure they are kept in a safe and usable condition at all timesAdhere to company work safety policiesPerforms other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair.
- Excellent mechanical repair skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read service and repair manuals.
- Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in Diesel Mechanic or related field required.
- Two years of related experience preferred.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
- Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
- Willing to live in a remote, rural community
- Comfortable traveling by small plane or ferry to and from a remote setting
- Able to walk and drive on gravel roads in inclement weather
