Job Title
Mechatronics Engineer
Job Details
The Mechatronics Engineer will design, build, and maintain custom systems used in the fabrication and measurement of precision optical elements. This role blends mechanical engineering, automation, and systems integration to deliver highly specialized equipment vital to Attalon’s manufacturing operations. The position offers hands‑on design ownership from concept through production, cross‑functional collaboration, and the opportunity to engineer solutions that directly impact product quality, yield, and throughput.
Responsibilities
• Design and develop mechanical systems—mechanisms, motion systems, robotics, and automation—from concept through production release.
• Create CAD models and detailed drawings (SolidWorks), including BOM development and maintenance.
• Collaborate with procurement and external vendors to source and oversee fabricated components.
• Participate in hands‑on assembly, testing, debugging, and refinement of designs.
• Integrate mechanical, electrical, and software components into cohesive systems; support testing, verification, and validation.
• Assist with electronics, sensor, and actuator subsystem design, including component selection (drivers, sensors, motors, controllers).
• Support development of control software/firmware, including motion control algorithms, safety interlocks, data acquisition, and HMI.
• Troubleshoot, optimize, and improve existing systems through root‑cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.
• Work collaboratively with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Product Development, and other engineering teams.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience designing mechatronic systems, automation equipment, or production‑automation solutions.
• Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
• Experience with electronics and motion control, including motor/drive systems, sensors, and embedded controllers/PLCs.
• Hands‑on experience with fabrication, machining, measurement tools, and precision mechanical assembly.
• Strong problem‑solving and root‑cause analysis skills with a continuous‑improvement mindset.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s degree or higher in a related field.
• Hands‑on experience with electrical integration, including soldering, cable fabrication, and electrical measurement.
• Experience in optics, laser systems, semiconductor equipment, or other precision manufacturing environments.
• Experience with cleanroom manufacturing, vacuum systems, or optics handling.
• Familiarity with safety standards (machine guarding, interlocks, CE/UL) and regulatory compliance.
• Experience or familiarity with photonics/laser technologies used at Attalon.
