Retail Representative (Food & Beverage)

Position Summary
The Retail Representative (Food & Beverage) plays a vital role in creating a welcoming and enjoyable guest experience aboard the M/V Ptarmigan. This position is responsible for serving packaged snacks, beverages, and alcoholic drinks; processing retail and ticket transactions; and maintaining a clean, organized, and guest-ready counter area throughout daily sailings.
The ideal candidate enjoys engaging with guests in a fast-paced maritime environment, demonstrates strong attention to detail, and takes pride in supporting smooth vessel operations through teamwork and exceptional service. This position requires a current Alaska Alcohol Server Training Card and Food Handler’s Permit prior to or upon employment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serve packaged snacks, beverages, and alcoholic drinks in compliance with all food safety and alcohol service regulations.
Accurately process retail, beverage, and ticket transactions using the point-of-sale system.
Greet guests warmly and provide friendly, efficient, and professional customer service throughout the cruise.
Stock, rotate, and display retail merchandise and beverages to ensure proper presentation and inventory management.
Work in coordination with deckhands to maintain a clean, organized vessel between sailings, including the retail counter, seating areas, and trash removal.
Follow established point-of-sale, cash handling, and inventory control procedures.
Support daily opening and closing duties, including restocking and preparing for upcoming sailings.
Collaborate closely with the Captain, vessel crew, and fellow team members to ensure smooth operations and high guest satisfaction.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive motions.
Ability to bend, reach, and lift up to 40 pounds.
Work is performed aboard a vessel in a fast-paced maritime environment with exposure to varying weather conditions.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and potential overtime during the tourism season.
Qualifications
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Current Alaska Alcohol Server Training Card and Food Handler’s Permit required prior to or upon employment.
Previous customer service or retail experience preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
Reliable, detail-oriented, and committed to guest service excellence.
