What You’ll Do
As a Clinical Extern, you’ll report to the Manager of Patient Care Services. You will provide patient care, under the close direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Patient care experiences will include assessments of assigned patients, documentation of observed findings, performance of sterile and non-sterile prescribed treatments and procedures. Specific tasks to be performed are determined based upon patient care unit assignments and may include some or all of the duties listed below. Experiences will be provided to facilitate clinical extern communications with multiple health team members. You will join a cohort group of students pursuing a career in nursing, participating in various leadership and professional development trainings.
Acute Care Clinical Extern Job Responsibilities
	- Assists with admissions, discharges, hygiene, feeding, and mobility.
 
	- Responds to call lights and supports daily patient needs.
 
	- Takes and records vital signs, weights, and intake/output.
 
	- Performs skin and wound care, catheter care, and specimen collection.
 
	- Assists with procedures (e.g., glucose checks, EKGs, IVs, NG suction).
 
	- Follows isolation and emergency protocols, including CPR and Code Blue.
 
	- Maintains clean, organized patient and work areas.
 
	- Transports patients and equipment; restocks supplies.
 
	- Reports patient concerns and equipment issues.
 
	- Completes assigned tasks and contributes to department effectiveness.
 
What You Bring
You bring knowledge of basic nursing assessments, care plans, and procedures.  You understand equipment and techniques used in assigned clinical areas.  You use analytical thinking to apply learned skills in new situations.  You build effective relationships with patients, staff, and physicians.  You communicates clearly in writing and speech and maintain a professional, courteous, and caring demeanor.  You have stamina for long periods of standing, walking, lifting, and CPR and fine motor skills for handling equipment and patient care tasks.  You bring visual acuity for patient observation and safety.
Required Qualifications
	- Successful completion of the junior year (or within one year of graduation) from an accredited nursing program 
 
	- Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above 
 
	- CPR certification
