Friendly House, Inc., is a 501(c) 3 non-profit agency located in Phoenix, Arizona whose primary function is to provide a variety of educational and social service programming aimed at addressing the needs of low-income individuals and families, vulnerable populations and diverse communities. Additionally, Friendly House operates a charter school, Academia del Pueblo, with the mission to provide an academic environment which promotes a culture of high expectations to students from diverse cultures. Friendly House was organized in 1920 as the Phoenix Americanization Committee by a group of Phoenix citizens with the assistance of the United States Department of Education. In our 100-year history, the work of Friendly House has resulted in building resilient communities that are helping to spur economic development, stabilize neighborhoods and revitalize our city.
About the role
Under the direction of the Lead Teacher, the Childcare/Preschool Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities that meet the intellectual, social, and emotional needs of children 3 to 5 years of age. The teacher is responsible forencouraging the healthy intellectual and psychological growth of the children in the Early Childhood Development Center and will teach and supervise children while also motivating them to use their mental capacities and exercise their imagination. The Childcare Preschool Teacher is also responsible for preparing children for kindergarten by easing them into organized education, by teaching them important elements that they will encounter as part of their preschool to kindergarten transition. This position is also responsible for supervising children at all times within the required licensed student/teacher ratios and must work collaboratively with co-teachers.
What you'll do
- Supervise the health and safety needs of children during classroom and outdoor activities.
- Plan and implement lessons that encourages physical health, communication, literacy, social, emotional, and cognitive development that are age appropriate.
- Complete assessments, screenings, and surveys of children in the areas of social cognitive, physical, and emotional development.
- Develops lesson plans for the classroom that align with Early Childhood learning Standards and prepares learning materials as needed.
- Maintains cleanliness and hygiene, and overall well-being of children at all times.
- Responsible for developing and maintain Student Portfolio for children in the program.
- Attends staff meetings, in service, and trainings.
- Perform any other tasks or duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher, Operations Manager or administrative
- personnel.
- Design and follow a full schedule of activities and discover suitable teaching material.
- Balance teaching between logical and social exercises.
- Provide basic care and caregiving activities.
- Use a wide range of teaching methods (stories, media, indoor or outdoor games, drawing etc.) to enhance the child's abilities.
- Evaluate children's performance to make sure they are on the right learning track.
- Remain in constant communication with parents and update them on the progress of their children.
- Developing a careful and creative program suitable for preschool children.
- Employing a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, media etc.) to teach children.
- Observing each child to help them improve their social competencies and build self-esteem
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience working in childcare or preschool setting.
- Must possess a current State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Clearance Card
- CPR and First Aid Certified.
- First Aid and Adult Child Infant/CPR card.
- Tuberculosis test result.
- Child Care education training.
- Complete the Criminal History Affidavit
