MATERIAL TECHGENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for quality checking and tracking of medical supplies and equipment on patient care units. Along with the decontamination, assembling and sterilization of procedure trays for the Surgery, Labor and Delivery, Cardiac Cath Lab, Outpatient, ER and all nursing units.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Quality test equipment in decontamination.
- Quality test gas and steam sterilizers, record required data on log sheet.
- Provide prompt delivery of supplies.
- Inspect all instrumentation for cleanliness and freedom of movement/usefulness.
- Assembles procedure trays according to the tray count sheet and places correct indicator strip in each tray.
- Initial and dates the instrument tray count sheet and places it on the outside of the tray setup.
- Provides cleaning, quality checks and issues durable equipment from the department when required.
Durable equipment includes:
- Infusion Pumps, Gomco's, Flowtron's, etc.
- Rotates Sterile Processing stock and checks for expiration dates for both in-house processed and manufacture processed supplies.
- Maintains Durable Medical Equipment tracking record by entering information into the computer relative to equipment being used on a daily basis.
- Operates both gas and steam sterilizers according to procedure and maintains proper operating records.
- Participates in education and in-servicing programs that relate to the functions of the Central Services Department both in-house and outside facilities.
- In compliance with Holy Cross Hospital Attendance Standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Education and/or licensure requirements:
- High School or equivalent. Completion of Technician classes for IAHSM or ASHCSP.
- Compliant with PPD requirements.
Experience:
- Three (3) years of Central Services or Processing experience.
Interpersonal Skills:
- Good customer service skills and people skills essential and required.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a normal office environment and a normal decontamination and sterilization work
Environment.
- Exposed to a wide variety of health hazards, such as blood and body fluids, highly infectious
- Diseases and ethylenoxide, and safety hazards such as sharp instruments, needles and scalpels.
