Job Description:
JSL is seeking a Senior Reporter / Writer is responsible for producing high-quality, accurate, and engaging written content that communicates NSWC Corona’s mission, capabilities, and accomplishments to internal and external audiences. This role involves researching, writing, editing, and proofreading a variety of materials including articles, feature stories, scripts, presentations, and video subtitles. The Senior Reporter / Writer also assists with content strategy, guides junior writers, and ensures that all outputs align with Navy standards and public affairs policies.
The candidate will perform the following tasks:
- Produce compelling articles, news releases, feature stories, and other written content for internal and external publications, newsletters, websites, and social media channels.
- Conduct interviews with Navy personnel, leadership, technical experts, and other stakeholders to gather accurate and relevant information.
- Research and verify facts, statistics, and technical information to ensure accuracy and credibility of content.
- Edit and proofread submissions for grammar, style, clarity, and adherence to Navy public affairs standards.
- Collaborate with videographers, graphic designers, and other content creators to support video productions and multimedia storytelling.
- Develop content for presentations, slides, and scripts for video or live events, including captions and subtitles.
- Assist in planning and executing communications campaigns, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and audience engagement strategies.
- Mentor and guide junior writers and interns in research, writing, and editing practices.
- Maintain editorial calendars and track content development, deadlines, and approvals.
- Ensure all content is consistent with Navy messaging, branding, and public affairs policies.
- Stay current with emerging trends in journalism, digital media, and military communications to enhance storytelling and engagement.
