The CPLC De Colores Shelter team is hiring a Kitchen Support Partner! Top candidates will be bilingual Spanish/English, experienced in preparing food for 80+ people, and have a passion for serving vulnerable, diverse populations.
SCHEDULE:
- Monday-Thursday, 6:30am-3:30pm & Sunday 7am-3pm
- In-person, Full-time
- Schedule may be subject to change based on coverage needs, including special events, weekends and holidays if needed
ABOUT CPLC DE COLORES SHELTER
CPLC De Colores provides a safe, secure place for families to heal from the traumatizing effects of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking. Shelter and community-based services meet survivors where they are to help them discover their strengths and regain their freedom.
The De Colores Shelter provides emergency housing, case management, legal and housing support, support groups, transportation, youth services, housing and employment support, and referrals to other resources. We offer nurturing spaces for survivors and their families to heal, including a meditation room, a garden, and a special area for youth activities.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Kitchen Support Partner is responsible for the daily functioning and maintenance of a community kitchen utilized to provide meals to the residents of the De Colores Domestic Violence and Family Homeless Shelters.
As part of the De Colores team, the Kitchen Support Partner demonstrates cultural awareness and sensitivity to all residents. They create supportive, welcoming dining experiences to individuals and families experiencing domestic violence and housing instability. The Kitchen Support Partner contributes to the community of De Colores in a variety of ways, including:
- Coordinating food service activities, including purchasing/ordering needed food items
- Planning and organizing the menu
- Overseeing activities in the kitchen and dining areas, maintaining cleanliness and organization according to federal, state, local sanitation and food safety requirements and best practices
- Picking up food donations from local food banks
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
Education/Background
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Bi-lingual English/Spanish required
- Experience working in a commercial or community-style kitchen
- Able to work with clients who experience domestic violence and homelessness
- Must have current
- food handler card
- driver’s license
- Fingerprint Clearance Card or ability to have one within 60 days of employment
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays if needed
Physical Demands
- Moving up to 50 pounds (food donations, boxes, carts, kitchen equipment, etc)
- Standing for extended periods of time in a kitchen setting
- Using various kitchen equipment and cooking utensils
