For over 50 years, Covenant House New York (CHNY) has been at the forefront of transforming lives by providing comprehensive shelter, housing, and wrap-around support services for vulnerable homeless, runaway, and exploited youth. As the largest provider of these essential services in New York City, CHNY impacts the lives of over 1,500 young people aged 16-24 every year.

About the role
Prepare and serve well-balanced and nutritious meals for clients/special events. Serve clients in a courteous, helpful, and prompt manner. The kitchen helper must maintain a clean kitchen facility, support in various areas including receiving and stocking all kitchen products
What you'll do
- Prepare/serve food for Covenant House clients/special events.
- Clean and sanitize dishes/kitchen utensils.
- Clean floors, walls, and food preparation equipment.
- Obtain products as needed by the cook.
- Assist with stocking supply rooms.
- Strictly follow sanitation, hygiene and food handling standards as per department of health and hygiene
- Always upholds CHNYs mission, vision and principles, standards of conduct, policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned and needed
Qualifications
- High School diploma/GED and Certificate in Food Protection preferred.
- One-year experience in the food services industry.
- Prior experience with cooking utensils and equipment preferred.
- Detail oriented and strong communication skills
- Ability to operate the following machinery: Dishwasher, Floor scrubber, cleaning tools
- Ability to carry heavy loads of food products and kitchen equipment
The pay range for this role is:17.63 - 17.63 USD per hour(41st ST - SHELTER)
