Position Summary:
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist Extern will participate in clinical training under the direct supervision of a licensed Nuclear Medicine Technologist. The student will gain hands-on experience in preparing, performing, and documenting diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures in accordance with departmental protocols, patient safety standards, and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with patient preparation, including verifying identity, explaining procedures, and assessing for contraindications.
- Observe and, under supervision, perform radiopharmaceutical preparation, quality control, and administration.
- Operate imaging equipment and assist in acquiring diagnostic nuclear medicine images under supervision.
- Learn and apply principles of radiation safety, infection control, and patient confidentiality.
- Document clinical activities and maintain accurate patient records in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Observe and participate in stress tests, cardiac nuclear medicine procedures, PET/CT, SPECT, and other studies as applicable.
- Support workflow within the nuclear medicine department, including restocking supplies, cleaning equipment, and preparing rooms.
- Collaborate with technologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff to ensure high-quality patient care.

- Understand the role of the nuclear medicine technologist within the broader healthcare team.

Qualifications:
- Enrollment in an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and nuclear medicine principles (coursework completed or in progress).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow instructions, accept feedback, and work effectively as part of a clinical team.

This position is a clinical position.
Physical Requirements
This position requires full range of body motion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to handle or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 50 pounds.
