DIRECTOR OF NURSING
Position Summary:
Directs and supervises functions and activities in a skilled nursing unit; implements and interprets policies, procedures, standards, and regulations for personnel, residents, patients, medical staff, and the public. Provides nursing and related services to assure resident safety and attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited School of Nursing MHA, MBA or MSN from an accredited school
- Three years' full-time clinical experience and long-term care experience, and previous supervisory experience
- Current and Unencumbered WV RN license, CPR certification

- Evaluates work performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
- Assists Clinical Supervisor with work schedules assignments.
- Oversees the delivery of resident care; directs and delegates resident/patient care assignments to nursing staff.
- Planning and overseeing new admissions, Nursing & patient care processes
- May provide direct resident, evaluates resident outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care plan as indicated to ensure optimal resident care.
- Maintains awareness of ongoing Quality Assurance studies within the Long term care department; assists with the implementation and accountability of corrective actions determined necessary.
- Implements and maintains WV DHHR OHFLAC, and CMS regulations related to nursing homes.
- Collaborates with staff and consults in designing and providing resident care and services.
- Collaborates with the Medical Director and Pharmacy consultant on quality of care.
- Ensures accurate and timely maintenance of resident’s medical record and that resident records are treated as confidential information.
- Actively participates in the Mansfield Place QA and Falls Committees.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient ranging from young adult to geriatric.
Application of Knowledge Performance Criteria
- Demonstrates knowledge of special needs and the normal patterns of growth and development of the infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric population as documented in care plans, follow-up and education provided to patient and patient care provider.
- Provides nursing and related services to assure resident safety and attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of each resident.
- Conducts monthly department staff meetings to communicate current relevant information.
- Position Accountabilities and Performance Criteria
- Responds to any nursing related issues in a timely manner (not to exceed 72 hours)
- Interviews and sets up training for all new nursing staff.
- Completes and participates in the development of any plans of correction required related to nursing deficiency from survey inspections.
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, supports quality assessment and performance improvement processes, adheres to safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and literature.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
