About the Position
Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing general maintenance, repairs, inspections, and upkeep of assigned properties. This role ensures the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of buildings and grounds while supporting operational efficiency and compliance.
The Role
Our maintenance technicians play a valuable role in ensuring the safety and functionality of our tenants, guests, and employees. Through repairs and routine safety care, this position is essential to our success. This role requires a courageous and innovative team member who works to ensure that services have an equitable impact and positive outcomes for all individuals being served, with a specific focus on outcomes for Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC). The incumbent will directly collaborate with the facility’s manager and other leadership staff to achieve our organizational goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical Duties
- Complete assigned work orders promptly and document them in Yardi or other applicable software.
- Perform general maintenance, repairs, and implement preventive maintenance to safeguard the asset’s physical structure and fixtures.
- Conduct building repairs and prepare vacant units for move-in, including painting, cleaning, and minor repairs.
- Remove trash and abandoned furniture from vacant units.
- Monitor and maintain building maintenance supplies; complete supply lists as needed.
- Run errands and pick up supplies and parts as requested.
Administrative Duties:
- Coordinate assignments based on priority and need.
- Document work orders and enter data into property management systems.
- Prepare buildings and/or apartments for inspections.
- Meet with vendors and inspectors for regular building maintenance and inspections.
- Assist with move-in/move-out inspections.
Social & Environmental Duties:
- Continually monitor and improve the curb appeal of assigned properties.
- Make regular rounds of each property to pick up trash and inspect for cleanliness.
- Shovel and salt sidewalks and trash areas.
- Mow the grass, weed, rake leaves, and provide general landscaping services.
- Assist with trash and recycling rotation at the BROWNstone building.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Work overtime as needed and approved.
- Participate in rotation of on-call emergency maintenance, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Participate in additional training to obtain relevant certifications and increase skills and competencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification:
- High school Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in residential building maintenance, including drywall, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, tile, screen, and window repair.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Must possess reliable transportation
- Must be able to pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with appliance repairs.
- Previous experience in general maintenance or facilities support.
- Familiarity with property management software (e.g., Yardi).
- Technical or vocational training.

- Ability to use essential maintenance and ERP software
- Ability to work independently and in team environments
- Understanding of homelessness issues and sensitivity to the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Have a strong work ethic; be action-oriented and able to set achievable objectives for yourself and others.

- Experience working with vulnerable populations and/or individuals with lower incomes.

Job Requirements
- Must be able to sit for extended periods
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 10-25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25-75 pounds.
- Ability to work outside of the typical Monday through Friday 9 am – 5 pm hours when work demands are present – including events, responding to overnight shelter and supportive housing incidents, attendance at meetings, and other activities.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and working outdoors.
Schedule:
- Workdays may vary depending on business requirements.
- Weekend and evening availability are required
- Shift hours are 9:00 am to 5 pm or as needed.
- Shift may occasionally require overtime
