General Summary: The day-to day job and most critical responsibility of the Intake Therapist is to assist people towards their journey of recovery from mental illness, physical illness, and substance abuse during the intake process. The intake therapist will conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments of new and returning persons served. The goal of the intake process is to accurately identify the persons presenting needs in order to provide the best recommendations and initial goals for treatment
Responsibilities
- The intake therapist will practice the Recovery Model in all interactions with persons served. Interactions and interventions should be embedded within the Recovery Model such that an outside observer to Arundel Lodge would be able to recognize the core elements of the Recovery Model. These elements are non-linear and holistic, and emphasize hope, personal responsibility, peer support, respect, empathy, non-stigmatizing language, empowerment, using individual strengths, and self-determination. Arundel Lodge provides initial and on-going training and support to the therapist concerning the Recovery Model and the therapist is evaluated on his/her use of the Recovery Model to perform his/her assigned job responsibilities.
- The therapist demonstrates positive interpersonal relations with clients, families, visitors, and co-workers in accordance with Arundel Lodge departmental policies and procedures and the Recovery Model Philosophy. Qualifications
- Facilitate acceptance of client Informed Consent documents
- Ensure all documentation is properly completed prior to the start of the Intake Assessment.
- Gather all relevant clinical data to make an informed preliminary diagnosis and document diagnosis, biopsychosocial and interpretive summary in the intake assessment
- Maintain accurate and concise documentation of client interactions.
- Educate clients on recommended treatment services.
- Facilitate the linkage of clients to recommended services (therapy, medication management, specialty services).
- Assess client’s level of care, and facilitation to higher levels of care when needed.
- Identification of clients’ current risk level.
- Maintain client safety as needed through crisis intervention. III.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Masters degree in professional counseling or related field from an accredited educational institution is required. Maryland state Professional Counselor licensure and credentials as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LCPC) or a Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C), Licensed Professional Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) or a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LMSW) or evidence of application for licensure examination at the time of employment, is required.
Client Safety The Intake Therapist ensures client safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in agency wide and OMHC client safety initiatives.
