General Responsibilities:
- Responsible for connecting youth who wait for permanent homes with families who wish to adopt by implementing and coordinating effective recruitment, matching and support services for an active caseload of 12-15 youth, using the Child- Focused Recruitment Model to identify these legally permanent resources.
- Attend educational opportunities created by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, including but not limited to: WWK classroom training, online modules, database training, webinars and the WWK Summit hosted by the Foundation.
- Accepts telephone calls from potential resources and supports and shares information on the child while collecting information indicating the appropriateness of the applicant. Performs intensive and exhaustive searches for kin and post resources for the child.
- Develop an initial written adoption readiness assessment describing the youth’s understanding and feelings about adoption; Create child-focused recruitment plans for the youth.
Education/Training: A bachelor’s degree in social service or a related field of study normally required; A Master’s Degree preferred.
Experience: A minimum of three (3) year’s related experience normally required; experience in adoption and child specific recruitment preferred. Knowledge of trauma and how it affects youth in the child welfare experience preferred.
ADA: Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, and lift items weighing up to 25 lbs.; visual and auditory skills.

Staff receive excellent training through a comprehensive paid general orientation including customer service training. We offer continuing training and education, provide the ability for career advancement, and host staff appreciation and special events. Diakon also maintains a discretionary emergency fund, which can be of assistance to staff members during critical times. In addition, Diakon offers a Love of Thy Neighbor Fund, which provides a per-day living expense and matches up to five PTO days for approved service or mission trips with other nonprofit organizations.
