SCOPE OF POSITION:
|
The Director of Critical Care, Telemetry and Emergency Department will report directly to the Chief Nursing Officer and work collaboratively with the nursing and physician leaders of the ICU, ED, and Telemetry. He/she will also need to ensure that there is tight coordination with the development, implementation, education, evaluation and maintenance of the clinical information system to support patient care. They will ensure that safe and appropriate clinical care is provided in these areas with clear quality and operational metrics in place.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
|
Ensure appropriate staffing levels in these areas to provide safe and effective clinical care.
Coordinate and collaborate with Analyze both simple and complex patient care practices and clinician workflow to clarify needs, prioritize requests, and recommend technology design and optimized workflow.
|
Participate in the development and application of policies and procedures. Use of technology to optimize care delivery processes and effectively communicate patient care activity.
|
Maintain membership on, or consultation to, appropriate committees, work groups or task forces as needed to facilitate the on-going process of design, implementation, and revision of safe and effective patient care within the division.
|
Manages ongoing operations within the units to ensure conformance with institutional and regulatory established standards.
|
Assists in the development and implementation of an effective Quality Improvement/Education program for the unit consistent with the hospital's overall plan.
|
In collaboration with the CNO, manages the unit's resources, including personnel, materials and physical facilities, ensuring the provision of effective, efficient and times services appropriate to patient care needs.
|
Assists the CNO in facilitating the department's goals, vision and objectives are accomplished by serving as a mentor to staff and collaborating with other disciplines and departments.
|
Assures adequate staffing and competent personnel and coordinates educational programs including age specific needs for staff.
|
Maintains clinical and managerial competency and professional development.
|
Safety: Follows established hospital and departmental precautions and procedures in the performance of all job duties to ensure a safe work environment for self and others.
|
Provides effective human resources management ensuring the provision of quality services.
|
Assists in the development of the unit budget. On a regular basis maintains and monitors the budget, ensuring that goals and cost objectives are met along with Finance team
.

Maintain a current knowledge of trends and issues in healthcare and nursing practice.
|
Maintain membership in key nursing organizations to enhance professional growth.
|
|
Ensure unit is operating effectively and meeting the regulatory standards in providing safe clinical care.
Responds to regulatory violations by creating action plans and processes to address performance deficiencies and creates and delivers targeted educational events to correct deficiencies.
Uses and / or initiates research with the goal of enhancing performance and educational outcomes.
Perform similar and related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS:
|
- Ability to use a systematic approach to problem solving.
- Ability to be self directed with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills including an understanding of systems theory, life cycles and project management.
- Requires good interpersonal and communication skills with ability to relate effectively with administration, physicians, patients/families and other members of the hospital staff.
- Knowledge of nursing standards as required by state, federal and TJC requirements.
- Data collection and statistical analysis.
- Ability to work in a time-oriented environment including exposure to all patient elements i.e., blood borne pathogens; physical requirement: lifting and pulling of patients; transport of patients by stretcher or wheelchair and standing/walking. Must be able to sit for long periods of time.

- BSN required; master’s degree in nursing preferred.
- Current RN license in Connecticut.
- Three to five years of clinical experience with demonstrated clinical competence
