The mission of Jubilee Housing is building diverse, compassionate communities that create opportunities for everyone to thrive. Since 1973, Jubilee has worked to provide high quality affordable housing and holistic support to those experiencing persistent economic hardship in the Adams Morgan and Columbia Heights neighborhoods of Washington D.C. Jubilee operates more than a dozen properties totaling more than 500 homes and has an active development pipeline of several hundred new affordable housing units in progress, including a integration of a first in kind aquaponics farm. Position Description
The Activity Zone/Teen Center (TC/AZ) Program Assistant will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the after school and summer program for Jubilee Housing youth in grades 4th-12th. The TC Program Assistant will report to the Teen Center Program Coordinator.
This position is permanent, part-time employment. The work hours during the afterschool program (September-June) are Mon. – Thurs., 1:30 pm -7:30 pm. Fridays are mostly virtual, and the work hours are from 9:00 am-3:00 pm. The afterschool program hours during the school year are 3:30 pm -7:00 pm, Mon. – Thurs. There is no program on Fridays.
During our five -week summer camp program (July-Aug) the work hours are 8:30 am - 3:30 pm Mon-Thurs. Fridays 9:00 am-12:00 Noon. The summer camp program hours are Monday -Thursday 9:00 am-3:00 pm; Friday 9:00 am-12:00 noon.
Specific Duties
- Assist in the implementation of out of school time and summer programming for youth in grades 4th through 12th
- Support the daily activities, including but not limited to tutoring, socioemotional learning, and additional enrichment activities
- Lead groups of youth in a safe, professional, and respectful manner
- Nurture a safe, respectful, challenging and inclusive environment
- Assist with outreach and communications for participant recruitment and retention
- Assist with administering and collecting student and parent surveys
- Establish and maintain communication with members of the staff about student needs and aspects of the program
- Develop positive relationships with parents
- Support children's emotional, academic, and social development, and maintain awareness of individual needs
- Support Program Coordinator with the implementation and tracking of individualized plans for each participant
- Support new program initiatives impacting Jubilee Housing, Platform of Hope, Jubilee to College and additional partner organizations at the direction of the Director of Youth Services and the Vice President of Programs (TBD)
- Support the TC Coordinator with the development and execution of the Jubilee to College Scholarship Program with recruitment of TC potential scholarship candidates which includes preparing and guiding applicants during before and after the application process
- Other duties as assigned by the Teen Center/Activity Zone Program Coordinator and Director of Youth Services
Desired Qualifications
- A commitment to supporting the academic performance and resourcefulness of youth from low-income families/background
- BS/BA in child/youth development, education, social work or other related field preferred
- A commitment to professional development within and outside of Jubilee Housing related to current trends and youth development
- Must undergo a comprehensive background check, including clearances for the National Sex Offender Registry and the District of Columbia Child Protection Registry, as well as FBI Background Checks
- Must utilize developmentally appropriate classroom management skills and strategies for K-3rd graders
- At least two years of experience working with black and Latinx youth of low-income households, preferably middle school-aged children
- Demonstrable experience working as part of a team

- Spanish fluency a plus, but not required
- Knowledgeable about the daily realities facing low-income families/individuals
