Position Summary
The Lab Assistant will support daily operations in the laboratory, with a primary focus on labeling and preparing specimens for processing. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a background in phlebotomy, clinical lab, or medical assisting.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform specimen intake procedures correctly and within acceptable time frames
· Accurately label and organize patient specimens for lab processing
· Maintain proper documentation and labeling protocols to ensure specimen integrity
· Locate samples for additional testing as needed
· Answer calls and messages promptly
· Participates in detecting and documenting occurrences that deviate from defined procedures.
· Support lab staff with basic tasks including restocking supplies, cleaning workstations, and preparing materials
· Follow safety procedures and infection control guidelines at all times
· Provide additional administrative or clinical support as directed by lab personnel or management
Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent required
· Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) certification or relevant clinical/lab experience
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
· Ability to follow strict protocols and prioritize tasks appropriately
· Excellent communication and organizational skills
· Comfortable working in a clinical/laboratory environment
Preferred Skills
· Experience working with specimens or in a lab setting
· Familiarity with EMR systems and lab software, eClinicalWorks, LabTrak, LabDaq
· Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA guidelines
