Job Description:
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is responsible for leading and overseeing all medical services across Valle del Sol health centers, including primary care, psychiatric, behavioral health, and opioid treatment services. This executive position balances clinical care (20–40% of time) with strategic leadership duties (60–80%), ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered, and integrated healthcare. The CMO directly supervises the Medical Director of Primary Care and Psychiatry and collaborates across departments to align care standards, improve outcomes, and support provider excellence.
Essential Functions:
Clinical Practice (20–40%)
- Provide direct patient care while maintaining a leadership role.
- Maintain an active caseload while modeling team-based, integrated, and culturally competent care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and service coordination.
- Ensure clinical documentation meets quality standards and regulatory timelines.
Medical Leadership & Oversight (60–80%)
- Supervise and support medical providers, including Medical Directors, FNPs, PMHNPs, and physicians across programs.
- Facilitate peer review processes and develop action plans for quality assurance improvements.
- Monitor prescribing practices, treatment planning, and ensure regulatory compliance (state, federal, accreditation bodies).
- Oversee all credentialing and privileging activities to maintain high standards of provider competency.
- Lead or co-lead development of medical policies, protocols, and workflows that support evidence-based care and operational excellence.
- Serve on and collaborate with the Medical Executive Leadership Team and Shared Operations Leadership Team.
Strategic Planning & Operational Collaboration
- Partner with the CEO and executive leadership to define and implement clinical goals and strategic initiatives.
- Develop and monitor KPIs for patient satisfaction, provider productivity, and clinical outcomes.
- Contribute to provider recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention strategies.
- Support initiatives to improve access, equity, chronic disease management, and preventive care.
Community Engagement & Representation
- Represent Valle del Sol in community partnerships, healthcare associations, and public health initiatives.
- Cultivate relationships with external providers, payers, and regulatory agencies to advance integrated care goals.
Other Functions

Job Qualifications:
- Completion of Medical School, Family Medicine Residency, or Internal Medicine fellowship.
- Preferred: Completion of additional formal physician leadership training (e.g., master's in business administration, Healthcare Administration, Medical Management, or other)
- Board certification from an appropriate specialty board recognized by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
- Current license or the qualifications to obtain a license to practice medicine, with full prescribing authority, as granted by the State of Arizona.
- Meet and maintain Valle del Sol's physician credentialing privileges.
- 7 years of recent experience in a primary care practice, teamed with physicians and advanced practice providers, serving multigenerational and multicultural patients.
- 5 years of leadership experience related to programmatic, departmental, physician, or medical staff administration.
- Basic Life Support trained or the ability to be trained within 10 business days from hire date.
- TB Screening Record and PPD/QuantiFERON/Chest x-ray upon hire (as applicable).
- Vaccinations/Titer's Test/Declination Form: Flu, Hep B, MMR, Tdap, Varicella, Covid-19.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess reliable transportation, a valid driver"s license, and proof of auto insurance.
- Must possess or obtain a valid Fingerprint Clearance Card (if required for the role).
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be able to pass pre- and continued employment screenings successfully.
