Sequoia Riverlands Trust is a regional nonprofit land trust focused on the Tulare Basin, which comprises the southern San Joaquin Valley and Sierra foothills of Kern, Kings, Tulare, and Fresno counties, with additional conservation projects in 5 other California counties. We are accredited by the Land Trust Alliance, and our mission to conserve the lands and waters of California's heartland is supported by our ambitious programs in conservation easements (habitat and farmland), land stewardship, restoration, conservation outreach, and education.

OVERVIEW
The Dry Creek Nursery Manager (Nursery Manager) will be responsible for overseeing the growing and selling of native plants while maintaining Sequoia Riverlands Trust's Dry Creek Nursery facility. The Dry Creek Nursery's mission is to cultivate native plants for land restoration, education, and ecological landscaping on our natural, urban, and agricultural lands. The nursery operation focuses on California native plants as well as selected drought tolerant non-native, non-invasive plants from the southwestern U.S. and Mexico. The Nursery Manager will also lead outreach and sales work with agencies, landscapers, schools, resource conservation districts, and other partners to ensure sales growth.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Oversee the entirety of the nursery operations Supervise the Nursery staff and lead the (Americorps) Stewardship Technician during their nursery activities Oversee the propagation of plant material including seeds, cuttings, division and transplanting Keep the nursery in good condition, maintaining irrigation, pumps, emitters, and other infrastructure Is responsible for working with agencies, municipalities, businesses and other community partners to create opportunities for plant sales Support the nursery staff as they conduct periodic plant sales for the general public and is present as needed during regular business hours Manage and update inventory and fulfill online orders Work closely with the Land Management & Mitigation department to provide plant material for SRT preserves and restoration projects Work closely with the Education & Volunteer Department providing expertise and guidance for school field trips and nursery volunteer work days Travel to farmer's markets and other public events in local communities to bring access to native plants to as many people as possible. Assist with developing annual budget for nursery operations Work with the finance team to ensure financial transactions are recorded correctly. Work with the Investments & Partnerships Department to set revenue benchmarks and goals. Ensure the nursery is set to handle large scale orders in a timely manner. SUPERVISION
The Nursery Manager will work under the direct supervision of the Land Steward.
REQUIIRED SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
Professional experience pertaining to nursery work with knowledge of plant names, propagation techniques, plant growth, care and maintenance Is an entrepreneur at heart with a desire to grow the Dry Creek Nursery into a leading regional source for native and drought resistant plants. Has outside sales experience. Basic computer skills – internet & e-mail proficiency and Microsoft Office. Capable of completing web-based time and expense sheets and sales records Ability to use hand tools and motorized equipment (e.g. line trimmers) Work occasional Saturdays to accommodate weekend events Ability to walk on uneven terrain and perform strenuous labor with hand tools Ability to move and lift plants as well as other nursery tools and items Ability to work independently and part of a team, and with groups of people in an education or volunteer setting Driver's license, proof of insurance, a reliable vehicle, and willingness to drive it for projects that are off-site, sometimes for long distances (mileage is reimbursed at the federal rate). .
DESIRED SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
Retail or sales experience
Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in horticulture, plant science, or related field Experience with a Point of Sale system Familiarity with California native plants and their benefits Experience tracking & reporting inventory Ability to respond accordingly in the event of exposure to wildlife such as insects, rodents, or snakes Experience with Shopify or similar online sales systems.
WORK SETTING AND CONDITIONS
The position's primary work site is based at SRT's headquarters in Visalia, California, with regular, frequent trips to the Dry Creek Nursery near Woodlake, California: This position will spend a significant portion of time outdoors in the field When not in the field, a well-lit, heated, and air-conditioned indoor office with moderate noise will be available Option for hybrid home-office schedule at Executive Director's discretion Physical Demands Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Moderate to strenuous physical activity on occasion Manual dexterity sufficient to reach and handle items, work with fingers and perceive attributes of objects and materials; ability to stand, walk, sit, and reach Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative nature, using close vision At times, be outdoors in all weather conditions Full-Time. (40 hours per week) Work hours will include daytime, evening, and weekends. .
COMPENSATION
.This non-exempt position is on Band 2 of the SRT Pay Bands, with a pay rate between $25 - $27 per hour. Benefits include an employer matched retirement, health insurance program, life insurance, disability insurance, and generous paid time off.
