Position Summary:
The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of biweekly payroll for all employees, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role serves as a key point of contact for payroll-related inquiries, supports process improvements, and collaborates cross-functionally to maintain payroll best practices. Experience with UKG systems is highly desirable. Knowledge of the hospitality industry and experience handling tipped employees is a plus.
Job Responsibilities:
- Process end-to-end, multi-state bi-weekly payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees, including reviewing timecards, calculating adjustments, and validating payroll data.
- Accurately process and report tipped wages, tip credits, and related tax requirements in compliance with applicable laws.
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Administer garnishments and child support orders in compliance with legal requirements.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts related to payroll transactions.
- Administer the TAG referral program
- Respond to employee questions and resolve payroll discrepancies promptly and professionally.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing the required documentation and reports.
- Partner with HR, Finance, and other departments to ensure data accuracy and integration with benefits, timekeeping, and accounting systems.
- Identify and recommend process improvements to drive payroll efficiency and accuracy.
- Assist in system upgrades, implementations, and testing as needed.
- Assist other payroll specialists and Manager as needed
- Always maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll information.
- All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 4 years of payroll experience in a high-volume environment; multi-state payroll experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations and best practices.
- Experience processing tipped employee payroll and familiarity with hospitality wage and hour requirements is highly desirable.
- Experience with payroll tax compliance and reporting requirements.
- Proficiency in payroll systems and timekeeping software; UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group) experience strongly preferred.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with reporting and reconciliation tools.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion
