About the role
As an AV Programmer, you will be responsible for programming, configuring, testing, and supporting audiovisual systems to deliver seamless and integrated AV solutions for clients and internal stakeholders. You will work closely with designers, engineers, project managers, and end-users to program and commission control systems, ensuring AV systems operate reliably, efficiently, and meet project requirements. Your work will support the delivery of cutting-edge AV environments for commercial, education, healthcare, and entertainment applications.
What you"ll do
- Develop and program AV control system solutions using platforms such as Crestron, AMX, Extron, or Q-SYS to meet project specifications.
- Collaborate with AV design engineers to interpret system drawings, signal flow diagrams, and functional requirements for proper system programming.
- Create custom control interfaces for touch panels, keypads, and mobile devices.
- Program DSP platforms (e.g., Biamp, Q-SYS, BSS) for audio processing and room tuning.
- Integrate AV control systems with third-party devices, IT networks, and building systems (e.g., lighting, HVAC).
- Test and troubleshoot AV systems in the field to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and user experience.
- Generate comprehensive documentation, including system code, configuration files, user guides, and as-built records.
- Provide on-site support for system commissioning, tuning, and client training.
- Work closely with project teams to ensure programming milestones are met on time and within budget.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the latest AV technologies, control protocols (e.g., IP, RS-232, IR), and industry standards (e.g., AES67, Dante, AVB).
- Ensure all programming work adheres to company standards and best practices for scalability, maintainability, and security.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology) or equivalent technical experience.
- Proficiency in programming AV control systems, particularly Crestron SIMPL/SIMPL+, Crestron Studio, AMX NetLinx, Extron Global Scripter, or Q-SYS Designer.
- Strong understanding of AV signal flow, system integration, and interoperability between AV devices.
- Ability to read and interpret AV system design drawings and documentation (e.g., CAD drawings, schematics).
- Familiarity with IP networking concepts as they relate to AV systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail and quality assurance mindset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with project teams and interface with clients.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously, both independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel to client sites for system commissioning and support as needed.
- Relevant industry certifications such as Crestron Certified Programmer (CCP), AMX ACE, Extron Control Professional, or Q-SYS Level 2.
- 3-5+ years of experience programming commercial AV systems.
- Experience programming DSPs (e.g., Biamp Tesira, QSC Q-SYS, BSS Soundweb).
- Knowledge of advanced networking, AV over IP (e.g., Dante, AVB), and control system integration.
