POSITION SUMMARY
Performs all nursing functions within the scope of the practice of a Licensed Practical Nurse to facilitate patient flow and care by the provider.
- Working under the general direction and instructions from providers and RN on staff, they provide basic nursing care safely and efficiently and maintain a courteous and professional manner.
- Accurately assess a patient’s physical and emotional needs and provide appropriate interventions.
- Ensures proper documentation of care and treatment(s) and patient information is ready for each provider.
- Identifies the health education needs of patients; develops and implements specific teaching plans appropriate to age and/or developmental stage.
- Interviews and assesses patient and/or family to obtain the required history and assessment.
- Identifies subtle changes and abnormal vital signs via frequent patient reassessment, documents, reports and implements interventions.
- Descriptively document patient’s assessment, history, treatment, progress, and response, and condition at time of discharge or transfer.
- Follow appropriate protocols and remain calm in stressful situations.
- Discusses complaints or problems through appropriate communication channels.
- Safely performs venipuncture and safely administers medication on all routes.
- Provides desk assistance, such as answering phones, filing, making appointments.
- Discuss test results, medication, procedures, plans, etc. with patients and other healthcare professionals.
- Assists providers with exams/procedures, including cleaning, preparing, and stocking exam rooms and equipment throughout the day
- Places orders for clinical supplies with manager approval. Restocks shelves and performs inventories. Assures sufficient and appropriate stock of supplies.
- Properly collects and delivers specimens to the hospital laboratory for testing.
- Manages stock of drug samples, assuming accountability for documentation, records, and inventory.
- Follows proper protocol for all medical tests, procedures, and use of equipment.
- Protects patient rights to privacy and confidentiality.
- Attends required monthly/quarterly staff meetings.
Educational Requirements and Certifications
- Graduate of an approved program of practical nursing.
- The current West Virginia State Nursing license is required.
- Must possess CPR certification.
- BLS Certification within the orientation period.
Experience
- One-year experience in an urgent care clinic, emergency dept., or medical office setting, is preferred.
- Phlebotomy experience required.
- Authorizations and referral experience are required.
- Patient scheduling knowledge is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of general theory and practice
- Ability to work and deal effectively with others.
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision and adapt to each provider.
- Experience using EHR
- Demonstrated experience of developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships with co-workers.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
