Job Summary:
The OR staff nurse is directly responsible to the Specialty Coordinator/Manager/ Director of Surgical Services
- Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care of patients undergoing surgical intervention.
- Directly responsible for the preparation of room, preparation of patient, positioning, assisting anesthesia, documentation, and post case care of the equipment and supplies.
- Demonstrate ability to recognize patient’s individual needs and demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients.
- Assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in department’s policies and procedures.
- Responsible for the care and safety of patients under their care. i.e. participating in the timeout for each case and performing counts according to policy.
- Maintain all HealthStream assignments prior to deadline.
- Participate in all competencies planned for the job role prior to deadlines.
Performance Expectations:
Performance expectations will be covered in the orientation and precepted phases of orientation to job.
- Demonstrate technical aptitude for dealing with and troubleshooting multiple pieces of Operating Room equipment including but not limited to IV pump, heart monitor, blood pressure machine, suction machine, surgical lights, headlights, all positioning OR tables/attachments, patient stretchers and beds, electrocautery, bipolar devices, video equipment, microscopes, tourniquets, power drills and saws, autoclaves, and all other equipment related to care of the perioperative patient.
- Demonstrate the aptitude for safely positioning patients in a variety of required ways using a full range of positioning devices inclusive of yellow fin stirrups, OSI/Jackson frames, peg boards, bean bags, fracture tables, Wilson frames, Hana table, Guardian hip scope attachment
- Demonstrate the aptitude for assisting anesthesia as needed throughout the procedure but especially during intubation and reversal/emergence from anesthesia
- Demonstrate the ability to tolerate high and low temperature ranges set to accommodate desired patient outcomes
- Demonstrate the ability to tolerate physically demanding tasks of moving equipment and patients utilizing safety measures for both yourself and/or patient
- Demonstrates the ability to safely scrub, gown and glove, maintain the sterile field, and hold retractors as needed
- Demonstrate knowledge of Epic for documentation and retrieval of needed information for patient care..
- Demonstrate teamwork in daily routine of room turnover, OR room preparation for next day’s cases, and assisting where assigned as needed displaying a positive attitude.
- Adhere to OR policies for Attire and Attendance.
- Embraces and practices WE CARE philosophy in all aspects of patient, visitor, co-worker, employee, and non-employee interactions
- Maintain and update surgeon preference cards in a timely manner to prevent waste during procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program required.
Work Experience:
Experience as OR RN preferred but not required.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
- Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS
