Quantinuum K.K. is seeking a strategically minded and scientifically fluent Project Management Lead to spearhead complex research programs in collaboration with Japanese government agencies (e.g., NEDO, JST, MEXT), national laboratories (e.g., RIKEN), and top-tier universities.
This position is embedded within our scientific division but interfaces with finance, legal, R&D, and global teams to lead collaborative projects related quantum technology. Key Responsibilities / 主な業務内容 :
- Lead the end-to-end management of government-funded and joint academic-industry research projects—from proposal creation and budget formulation to execution, compliance, and reporting.
- Engage directly with government agencies (e.g., NEDO, JST, MEXT), universities, and national labs to define project scopes and ensure alignment with both policy priorities and scientific objectives.
- Facilitate collaboration across internal and external stakeholders, including senior professors, government officers, and global R&D teams.
- Navigate complex institutional structures with the ability to identify decision-makers, anticipate expectations, and respond tactfully to implicit norms and organizational dynamics.
- Prepare and submit competitive research proposals, often under tight timelines, ensuring alignment with technical, strategic, and policy goals.
- Engaging in exploratory research, including prototyping initial concepts, to assess feasibility and inform project development strategies.
- Acting as a thought leader within the organization, providing strategic direction for research initiatives, mentoring junior researchers, and fostering collaborations with external research and industry partners.

Must Have / 必須要件:
- PhD strongly preferred; exceptional candidates with an MSc and substantial leadership experience in public-sector R&D (e.g., HPC, quantum technologies, nuclear fusion etc.) will also be considered.
- Demonstrated experience managing collaborative research projects in academia, government, or R&D settings.
- Deep understanding of Japan’s research funding ecosystem (e.g., JST, NEDO, AMED, CREST, KAKENHI).
- Native-level Japanese and business-level English, with excellent communication skills across cultural and organizational boundaries.
- Ability to assess complex situations, read interpersonal dynamics, and move initiatives forward with tact and confidence.

- Strong organizational and documentation skills; comfortable using project tracking tools and grant management platforms.
- Excellent communicator in both written and verbal forms, with fluency in both Japanese and English, capable of conveying technical and non-technical concepts effectively to diverse audiences.
- Problem-solving mindset with a proactive, results-driven approach.
- 8+ years of experience in a client-facing or liaison role, ideally within a technical or scientific field.
