Position Summary:
This position reports to the supervisor of Quality/Risk and Infection Control. The Quality Assurance (QA) nurse supports the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Department in the planning and implementation of systemic programs for clinical quality and outcomes improvement efforts. The position serves as primary quality and regulatory support to clinical service lines and Medical Staff quality committees (e.g. Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, etc.) in the monitoring and evaluation of processes for clinical performance improvement and peer review. The QA nurse supports concurrent oversight and review of clinical quality measures and evidence based standards of care for the patients served by LVMC.
The QA nurse serves as an internal resource for regulatory compliance, quality measures, patient safety outcomes and patient experience.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:
- Supports and /or facilitates clinical performance improvement teams/taskforce as indicated.
- Serves as a consultative resource for clinical and departmental leadership and staff responsible for quality and performance improvement activities.
- Promotes quality/safety culture throughout the organization.
- Supports and assists quality department management in the implementation and monitoring of the Hospitals’ clinical quality improvement efforts. This may include concurrent oversight of core measure compliance and medical record review and abstraction.
- Supports and maintains records, minutes, and data from quality assurance committees, ad hoc PI teams, and other strategic quality initiatives in accordance with LVMC confidentiality, and Federal and State regulatory guidelines.
- Participates in regulatory activities and surveys, using working knowledge of CMS/CIHQ, and Title 22 standards.
- Collaborates with Committee Chairs and Department Directors in developing and setting improvement goals/priorities and in leading improvement efforts related to Quality/Peer Review.
- Collaborate with external patient safety and regulatory organization representatives.
- Timely reporting of patient safety data to various regulatory organizations.
Essential Functions:
- Consults with Department Leaders, Chiefs of Service, Medical Staff Committee Chairpersons, Physicians and Department Administrators to assist them in developing ongoing evaluation programs to identify, resolve, and report opportunities to improve patient care.
- May represent the Department at Medical Staff committees.
- Performs focused reviews requested by the Medical Center Administration, medical staff, or department directors, which frequently involve sensitive, confidential, or medical legal issues.
- Supports ongoing Quality Improvement activities across the medical center to assure timeliness, accuracy and compliance with licensing and regulation requirements.
- Use and educate end users on data display tools, including Quantros, Rounds + and CIHQ.
- Participate in risk management by investigating problems encountered by patients, identifying patterns and trends in patient care problems, and assist in developing policies and procedures to reduce risks.
- Monitors compliance with quality improvement requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of the Quality reports for the Medical Staff committees and the Board of Directors.
- Participate in the development of presentations on the quality improvement standards and the Medical Center Quality Improvement Plan to insure compliance with CIHQ, CMS, Title 22 and other regulatory agency standards. Conduct presentations as needed.
- Conducts proactive gap analysis related to patient care management.
- Participate in the annual development of the Medical Center goals for Quality Improvement.
Position Qualifications:
- Education: Licensed in the state of California, RN preferred, LVN considered. Bachelor's Degree and/or Certification in related specialty preferred.
- Experience: Three (3) years current clinical experience in an acute healthcare organization; previous quality improvement and risk reduction experience preferred.
Skills/Ability
- Excellent verbal and writing skills required. Proficiency in Microsoft WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint and internet. Ability to organize multiple assignments, and follow through with high degree of accuracy. Able to review medical records with an understanding of medical and patient care standards/regulations/guidelines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
