Responsible for ensuring the appropriate provision of Pastoral Care services to patients, families and staff at Waterbury Hospital. Report to Pastoral Care Coordinator.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Visit the sick as soon as possible after admission and inform them of the spiritual opportunities available within Waterbury Hospital.
- Give particular care to those in special need: the seriously ill, surgical patients and the emotionally disturbed.
- Assist families or relatives at the time of death of a patient or in other crises.
- Provide opportunities for sacramental ministry and pastoral counseling with patients and staff at times of crises and difficult situations.
- Provide around-the-clock coverage for all emergency calls (if available).
- Provide consultation to staff.
- Maintain statistical record of services provided.
- Perform other related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to perform as a member of an interfaith team in ministry to patients of all faiths.
- Knowledge of the relationship between religious faith, illness and the healing process, and the ways in which faith can provide healthy avenues to cope with pain, suffering and death as well recovery.
- Strong communication skills.
- Skill in pastoral care, counseling, crisis intervention and sacerdotal functioning.
- Familiarity with a hospital setting is helpful but not required.
- Membership in a recognized faith group.
- Certification in a professional association of chaplains is very helpful to have but not required for the role.
- Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures.
- Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility.
