POSITION SUMMARY:
This hands-on accounting manager is responsible for direct management and oversight of the restaurant accounting function as well as providing general support within accounting operations. This individual will have a strong understanding of ERP and accounting systems, in-depth knowledge of GAAP and accounting concepts, and be able to participate in cross functional meetings to support and drive system enhancements. This role requires an organized, motivated and detail-oriented individual that will actively manage competing priorities, produce a high-quality work product, is deadline driven and can actively manage a high-performing team. The Restaurant Accounting Manager will play a key role in optimizing business processes, providing structure to activities, ensuring accounting tasks are completed timely and accurately, and ensure that both internal and external constituents are properly supported.
KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages all aspects of the restaurant accounting function, including daily deposit reconciliations related to cash and credit card settlements leveraging reconciliation software, adjustments related to restaurant sale activity, Gift Card tracking and related breakage calculation, and 3rd party delivery reconciliations.
- Actively monitors and completes period-end close responsibilities to ensure deadlines are met and all required activities are performed timely and accurately; this includes the preparation and/or review of period end journal entries, accruals and moderately complex analyses.
- Responsible for period-end inventory and cost of sales adjustments, including coordination with operations and supply chain for variance analysis.
- Performs, reviews and delivers fluctuation and trending analyses for balance sheet and income statement accounts, providing support, review and oversight for timely and accurate completion of account reconciliations. Ensures that the restaurant accounting team provides timely financial support and analysis for restaurant field operators, including but not limited to questions regarding restaurant P&L’s.
- Provides mentorship and actively develops team members, including recommendations for improvement. Routinely provides guidance and support to the accounting operations team in their daily and period-end tasks.
- Works cross-functionally with other departments to ensure that we use the best information available for assumptions and accounting analysis. Provide professional verbal and written correspondence, while working collaboratively with business partners. Identify, research and evaluate variances to expectations, and follow-through until resolution.
- Improves and optimizes business and accounting processes either through automation or re-design of existing business practices to eliminate redundant or non-value added work, to keep pace with company growth.
- Supports the forecasting and budgeting process, working closely with the finance team and senior leadership.
- Actively manages special projects/initiatives and performs other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Certifications - Bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA Preferred.
Experience – 4+ years of related accounting experience with 2+ years in a managerial role of increasing responsibility.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities - Strong financial systems application background; preferred experience working with Netsuite and Hyperion (or PBCS) or similar. Strong knowledge of accounting/financial concepts, techniques and US GAAP. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel and Word). Ability to work independently and take initiative. Excellent oral and written English communication skills, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills. Demonstrates integrity and ethical behavior. Ability to work overtime, as needed.
Physical Requirements - Ability to speak/hear clearly in person and on the telephone. Ability to type on a computer keyboard and operate a 10-key. May require extended periods of time working on a computer.
