JOB SUMMARY
Working in conjunction with the Emergency Care Department Manager, Emergency Care Department (ECD) clinical care supervisors and RN, the ECD CNA performs a variety of skills/tasks for patients. The ECD CNA works under the direction of a licensed nurse who must follow the principles of delegation. ECD CNA work is reflective of CCMH mission, vision and values. The ECD CNA will integrate departmental goals for improvement across the continuum. The ECD CNA practices within the framework of the Wyoming Nurse Practice Act, under the direction of the RN.
Performs various direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assists patients in dressing, undressing, bathing, eating, walking, and other activities. Ensures patients' safety, well-being, and comfort. Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and gathers vital signs. Helps patients take medications. Aids physicians and nursing staff members with procedures if needed. Maintains documents and records related to patient care. Follows all relevant safety guidelines and regulations. Communicates with patients, their families, and other care providers. Requires a high school diploma. Requires Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Requires State License.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- CNA skills may include but are not limited to the following:
- Assist with basic patient care according to the plan of care established for the ED patients
- Obtain Adult vital signs, including accurate orthostatic
- Obtain Neonate and Peds vital signs including rectal temp
- Place monitor leads correctly that provide a quality result
- Performs EKGs that provide a quality result
- Oxygen therapy
- Sterile Technique
- Wound care
- Assist with splinting of extremities
- Oropharyngeal suctioning
- Assist with peripheral IV set-up of equipment and Discontinuing peripheral IV cannula
- Urinary catheter – Removal of urinary catheter; Obtains urine specimen from catheter port.
- Administration of enemas
- Capillary blood glucose testing
- Assist with collection and transport of specimens
- Perform 1:1 observation for suicidal patients
- Responds to mental health needs
- Perform Post-mortem care
- Assist with assembly of equipment
- Identify and Report to MD/RN on patient status, and concerns
- Provides service excellence utilizing AIDET.
- Enhances patient safety by attending shift huddle, and performance of hourly rounding.
- Assists with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
- Assist/Transport patients to Radiology
- Maintains a clean and safe environment.
- Performs routine cleaning tasks, clean examination rooms
- Document in patient records according to policy
- Order and restock supplies
- Performs clerical tasks
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrates efficient time management and prioritization skills
- Practices fiscal responsibility and accountability.
- Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices.
- Complies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Education
- High school graduate or GED required. Completion of CNA training
- Certification
- Currently certified as a CNA in the State of Wyoming
- Certifications required

- Experience
- Previous CNA experience preferred.
