About the role
The Oracle Database Administrator will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and optimization of Oracle databases, including legacy versions, while supporting the migration of Oracle database applications to AWS-based microservices architectures. The role requires expertise in database management, programming, containerization, cloud development, and microservices best practices to ensure secure, scalable, and efficient systems for mission-critical operations.
What you"ll do
- Administer, maintain, and optimize Oracle databases, including less current versions (e.g., Oracle 11g, 12c), ensuring high availability, performance, and security.
- Plan, execute, and support the migration of Oracle database applications to AWS microservices architectures, leveraging AWS services (e.g., RDS, Aurora, Lambda, ECS).
- Design, develop, and deploy microservices-based applications using containerization technologies (Kubernetes, Docker) for efficient deployment and scalability.
- Collaborate with development teams to integrate Oracle databases with modern microservices applications, ensuring data integrity and performance.
- Write and maintain code in C#, Java, and Python to support database automation, integration, and microservices development.
- Implement and adhere to microservices development best practices, including API design, event-driven architectures, and fault tolerance.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to Oracle databases and AWS microservices environments.
- Ensure compliance with client security standards for all database and cloud-based systems.
- Document processes, configurations, and migration strategies for knowledge transfer and compliance.
- Provide on-site support for database and application operations in Winchester, Virginia.
Qualifications
- US Citizenship
- Active Top Secret Security Clearance.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Oracle DBA, with hands-on expertise in managing legacy Oracle versions (e.g., 11g, 12c).
- Proven experience migrating Oracle database applications to AWS microservices architectures.
- Oracle Database Administration (DBA) skills to include installing, running, upgrading and maintaining Oracle Database products, as well as creating, maintaining, and enhancing schemas, tables, indexes, and triggers, grants, user accounts.
- Enforce database security, auditability, and least privilege principles.
- Proficient in SQL and the ability to write PL/SQL functions and stored procedures from scratch or debug, maintain or enhance existing code.
- Maintain Oracle database performance by conducting performance tuning, analyzing and refining SQL and PL/SQL code, and working with Java developers to ensure proper database interoperability.
- Demonstrated understanding of microservices development principles, including RESTful APIs, event-driven systems, and scalability best practices.
- Proficiency in Oracle database administration (backup, recovery, performance tuning, patching).
- Expertise in AWS services for microservices (RDS, Aurora, Lambda, ECS, S3, CloudWatch).
- Strong knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker for container orchestration and deployment.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for microservices deployment (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
- Understanding of Federal Government security standards
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or equivalent certification preferred
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified Developer preferred
- Knowledge of additional cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, Google Cloud) for hybrid cloud environments preferred
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) for infrastructure as code preferred
- Experience with database performance monitoring tools (e.g., Oracle Enterprise Manager, AWS CloudWatch) preferred
