As a Shop Manager at Altom Transport, you'll oversee a modern, fully equipped shop without the burden of outdoor elements or forced weekend work. Essential Responsibilities:
- Oversee mechanics in maintaining and repairing all fleet equipment.
- Display and encourage safe working practices at all times.
- Conduct regular safety talks and meetings with shop personnel.
- Supervise the shop staff, including recruitment, training, and evaluation of employees.
- Hands-on management of team members.
- Promote good morale and teamwork within the maintenance facility.
- Schedule and prioritize vehicle repairs to meet operational requirements.
- Work closely with parts personnel to manage current parts supplies and vendor costs.
- Provide input on procedural and operational changes to reduce costs and improve labor productivity.
- Ensure shop tools are in safe working order.
- Review repair orders within the TMT system for accuracy.
- Perform regular audits of work completed by mechanics.
- Evaluate vehicle repairs for in-house work or outsourcing.
- Oversee day-to-day shop operations and analyze problems with mechanics.
- Ensure the appearance of company equipment is properly maintained.
- Answer breakdown phone calls and emails promptly.
- Conduct yard checks to ensure asset availability for operations.
- Track PMs using our maintenance program and provide reminders to dispatch and drivers.
- Schedule shop services and keep up-to-date on all asset's preventative maintenance requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must have basic tools to maintain Class 8 equipment.
- General knowledge of ground transportation equipment and/or maintenance.
- Effective verbal, written, and organizational skills.
- Basic knowledge of PCs and Microsoft applications; familiarity with Transman and McLeod is preferred.
- Ability to motivate others and focus on accomplishing tasks.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Supervisory experience.
- Understanding of standard practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Tanker industry experience.
- Prior hands-on experience with heavy equipment maintenance.
- CDL is a plus.
