- Establish and enforce design criteria, technical specifications, and standard operating procedures to ensure all projects meet internal benchmarks and industry best practices.
- Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for all electrical systems, including medium voltage substations, UPS systems, generators, switchgear, and low voltage power distribution.
- Lead design reviews, provide technical feedback, and maintain the Basis of Design (BOD) documentation.
Hyperscale and Edge Node Project Support
- Provide technical oversight during concept, schematic, design development, and construction documentation phases for new data center developments.
- Ensure all designs comply with DC BLOX's standards while addressing the unique technical and business requirements of each hyperscale and edge node deployment.
- Supervise and coordinate activities between internal engineers, external consultants, and design-build partners to maintain alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
- Attend and actively contribute to weekly cross-functional design and OAC meetings, identifying issues early and developing proactive mitigation strategies.
Procurement and Vendor Management
- Partner with procurement to lead the evaluation, selection, and onboarding of key vendors and OEMs
- Review technical submissions to ensure equipment aligns with EOR (Engineer of Record) specifications, performance standards, and interoperability requirements.
- Monitor and validate vendor equipment lead times, production capacity, and delivery logistics to mitigate risk of construction delays.
- Drive the adoption of new technologies by maintaining close relationships with industry innovators and suppliers, ensuring DC BLOX remains on the cutting edge.
Commissioning (CX) Oversight
- Own the development and execution of project-specific commissioning scopes of work and RFPs, ensuring alignment with project drawings and commissioning standards.
- Oversee the entire bid process, from Q&A sessions to bid leveling and final selection of commissioning agents.
- Serve as the primary engineering lead during commissioning activities, coordinating testing protocols, manufacturer presence, load bank logistics, and field troubleshooting.
- Monitor the success of commissioning activities, ensuring project acceptance criteria are fully met before handoff to operations.
Quality Assurance and Construction Support
- Conduct ongoing QA/QC inspections of field installations and contractor work, ensuring compliance with design documentation, construction best practices, and safety codes.
- Lead the technical review of shop drawings, submittals, change orders, and RFIs, ensuring traceability to design intent.
- Perform on-site and factory acceptance testing (FAT) when needed to validate equipment performance and manufacturing quality.
Utility Coordination
- Work closely with the VP of Utilities to align electrical infrastructure plans with utility company roadmaps and development timelines.
- Serve as the engineering point of contact for power delivery negotiations, utility interconnection agreements, and load studies.
- Keep the broader design team informed of utility developments, delivery milestones, rate structures, and power availability.
- Assess and mitigate the impact of utility-driven delays or cost overruns during commissioning and early operations.
Operational Support
- Provide hands-on engineering guidance to the operations team across active facilities, including troubleshooting, MOP reviews, incident analysis, and capacity planning.
- Collaborate on the design and execution of capital improvement projects, ensuring minimal operational disruption and long-term reliability.
