Job Summary:
Responsible for the coordination and documentation of patient information for Mason Clinic. Responsible for collecting demographic data and insurance information for scheduled patients, verifying insurance eligibility, identifying copay information and referring patients for financial assistance with Business office IPA as needed. Provides a “Patients First” experience and supports a positive workplace by maintaining a professional work environment while completing all assigned tasks in a timely and accurate manner. May assist with routine patient access activities to include cross training and education.
Job Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Performs Pre-Registration/Registration function to include but not limited to demographics, financial information, guarantor and employer. Maintains confidentiality standards as defined by system policies.
Verifies insurance eligibility and obtains any necessary authorization for services.
Calculates estimated copay amounts based on benefits and contract reimbursement as well as prior balances.
Serves as a point of contact for both internal and external customers as it relates to patient registration and insurance verification.
Displays professionalism and promotes an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation. Communicates to patients, visitors and coworkers with courtesy and tact. Maintains professional relationships with both Hospital and Clinic personnel.
Serve as a mentor to new or existing employees and shadow job functions as it relates to pre-registration work.
Assist with remote check in and registration processes as needed to support offsite or virtual patient visits.
Answers incoming calls in a timely and professional manner; responds to or reroutes calls as appropriate to ensure that the customers’ needs are handled as efficiently as possible.
Maintains registration skills to assist with patient registration if necessary to support essential operations.
Other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Two (2) years of customer service and clerical experience.
Experience in hospital Admissions or insurance billing preferred.
Experience with medical terminology and hospital ADT system preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of insurance plan’s requirements and procedures.
Knowledge of managed care and government plans.
Knowledge of insurance websites and real-time eligibility responses.
Ability to work well within a team as well as independently in a fast paced environment.
