Position Summary
Pharmacists are responsible for the safe and accurate dispensing of pharmaceuticals, in accordance with departmental and institutional policies, applicable laws, regulations and standards. They must ensure appropriateness of prescribed therapy for all patient populations including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. Pharmacists must also communicate effectively with the department, with other health care professionals and patients. This position will also oversee the sterile compounding program for the pharmacy department and will be responsible for managing sterile compounding compliance.
Primary Position Responsibilities
Ensures accurate and proficient distribution of medications in accordance with department policies in addition to state, and federal regulations
Ensures accurate and proficient preparation of parenteral medications in accordance with department policies in addition to state, and federal regulations
Provides administrative support for pharmacy management
Oversees compliance with all regulatory requirements required for sterile compounding including, USP 797, USP 800, NJ Board of Pharmacy, Joint Commission and other state and federal regulatory bodies
Manages policies related to sterile compounding and other areas as designated in collaboration with pharmacy management
Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of quality improvement programs, pharmacy staff training in relation to sterile compounding and hazardous medication handling
Communicates with the Director of Pharmacy and Assistant Director of Pharmacy routinely in regards to the sterile compounding program compliance to ensure staff compliance and patient safety
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Required:
Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy
Preferred:
Doctor of Pharmacy
Minimum Years of Experience (Amount, Type and Variation):
Required:
6 months hospital or 2 years pharmacy internship
Preferred:
2 years hospital, post-graduate residency training
License, Registry or Certification:
Required:
New Jersey Pharmacist License
Preferred:
Specialty pharmacy certification (e.g. BCPS, CGP), Sterile Compounding Certificate (e.g. ASHP Compounded Sterile Preparations Certificate)
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
Required:
Pharmacy skills serving patients of diverse age and disease states; working knowledge of Automated Dispensing Cabinets (e.g. PYXIS® or Omnicell®); Competence in required computer programs (clinical system, ADC, IV workflow systems, parenteral documentation)
Preferred:
MS Office Proficient; Teaching/precepting experience
