The Paramedic, under the supervision of the Professional Registered Nurse and/or Physician is responsible for facilitating age-appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care, maintaining a safe environment, educating patients and their families, collecting information, communicating effectively, and utilizing technology. The Paramedic participates in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of health care services and task. The role of the Paramedic also includes patient advocacy, teaching, performance improvement, and the oversight of unlicensed personnel.
Paramedics shall perform only those skills listed under their licensure level and as further restricted by Upson policies, and only once they have been trained on those skills, and credentialed to perform those skills by the agency Medical Director and qualified Upson medical staff. Paramedics shall administer only medications listed under their licensure level and as further restricted by Upson policies, and only once they are trained in the pharmacology of that medication, and credentialed to administer that medication by the Emergency Department Medical Director and Upson. In addition paramedics shall only administer medications upon a physician's order.
