Reports to: Nurse Manager L&D
Position Summary works independently as scrub in OR cases. Attention to detail and safety. Collaborates with OB team and maintains supplies in the OR setting.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors
Checks supplies & equipment prior to surgical procedure
Scrubs, sets up, counts and assists intra-operatively.
Maintains highest standard of sterile technique.
Prepares instruments for decontamination.
Assists OB team with stocking and deliveries.
Follows WPH policies and procedures for infection control and fire safety.
Identifies and reports malfunctioning equipment appropriately.
Follows patient safety standards.
Completes competency requirements.
Completes 15 hours of continuing education credits as required by NY State Law (effective Jan. 1, 2015)
Performs all other related duties as assigned
Education & Experience Requirements
High School Diploma or GED and MUST meet one of the following:

- Graduate from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) and holds and maintains a Certified Surgical technologist (CST) certification.
- Completed a military surgical technology program
- Is in the service of the federal government to the extent the person is performing duties related to service.
- Prior experience is preferred
- Certification by a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization preferred.

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment

- May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
- Must be physically able to push/pull/lift heavy objects more than 50 lbs. and lift patients of all weights with a minimum of one (1) assist or assistive device.
- Perform difficult manipulative arm, hand steadiness and hand eye coordination skills.
