About the role
Sunco Lighting is seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to assist in various accounting functions, including financial reporting, compliance, and operational accounting. This role requires expertise in U.S. GAAP, financial closing processes (monthly, quarterly, yearly), and the ability to work collaboratively across departments. The Senior Accountant will support internal teams, external auditors, and management to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial operations.
What you"ll do
1. Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statementsPartner with internal teams to deliver inventory and performance analysis reportsSupport external audits, including franchise tax, sales tax, workers' compensation, and banking audits
2. Month-End, Quarter-End & Year-End Close
Prepare journal entries and perform account reconciliationsMaintain depreciation and fixed asset schedules, and assist with cost segregation analysisEnsure compliance with revenue recognition and accrual accounting policiesSupport inventory valuation, reserve analysis, and write-down processes
3. Accounts Payable & Receivable
Support AP/AR operations, including invoice review, approvals, and paymentsTrack collections and ensure adherence to customer payment terms (e.g., Net 30)Assist with vendor setup, invoice validation, and credit terms negotiation
4. Compliance & Tax Support
Assist with 1099 filings, payroll tax reconciliations (941, W-2, W-3), and 401(k) compliancePartner with external CPA firms for compiled financials and year-end tax filingsMaintain depreciation schedules and ensure regulatory compliance
5. Banking & Treasury
Monitor banking transactions, ACHs, wires, and daily cash balancesReconcile loan payments, banking covenants, and integrate with treasury systems (e.g., CashPro)Conduct daily Positive Pay reviews and support month-end bank reconciliations
6. Payroll & Compensation Accounting
Reconcile payroll runs and benefits with financial recordsEnsure proper allocation of payroll, taxes, and benefit costs across departmentsSupport final paycheck processing, accrued leave reconciliation, and expense tracking
7. Inventory & Supply Chain Support
Assist with inventory accounting, freight-in allocation, and landed cost analysisCollaborate with supply chain to analyze container liquidation and procurement dataMaintain accurate reporting of inventory movement and cost variances
8. Ad Hoc & Custom Reporting
Develop tailored financial reports and dashboards for departmental useSupport data collection for government filings (e.g., Census Bureau, energy commission)
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 1 year at a U.S.-based company following U.S. GAAPStrong knowledge of financial close procedures and internal controlsAdvanced skills in QuickBooks Online, Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros), and cloud-based ERP toolsStrong analytical, organizational, and communication skillsProven ability to work independently and cross-functionally in a remote or hybrid environment
Preferred QualificationsExperience in eCommerce (Amazon, Walmart, Shopify)Inventory and cost accounting experienceBanking and treasury experience, including loan and cash managementExperience with Rippling, Gusto, or similar payroll systems
