Job Summary: Are you passionate about improving patient outcomes and ensuring high-quality care? We are seeking a Trauma Performance Improvement (PI) Coordinator to lead our trauma program's performance improvement and quality assurance activities. Under minimal supervision from the Trauma Program Manager and/or Trauma Medical Director, you will identify, verify, and investigate complications and events involving trauma patients, analyze trends, and drive continuous improvement from pre-hospital care through discharge.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the Trauma Performance Improvement Program (PIP) at the facility level, including data collection, collation, analysis, modification, and instruction.
- Review Performance Improvement indicators and medical records for accuracy and completeness, ensuring compliance with ACS standards.
- Collect and analyze benchmarking data, focus studies, and clinical indicators to identify areas for improvement.
- Provide education, ensure loop closure, prepare reports, present outcomes, and participate in continuous improvement projects related to the trauma program.
- Participate in new employee trauma education and orientation to facility charting and trauma care expectations.
- Monitor compliance with established standards set forth by the trauma program's policies and procedures, as well as national, state, and regional agencies.
- Document performance improvement processes to determine the success of actions and implementations.
- Provide patient follow-up with physicians, hospitals, and emergency medical services.
- Interpret and present data to support process improvement and research, identifying variations in patient care delivery and measuring outcomes with benchmarks.
- Report any identified quality of care concerns, including sentinel events, deaths, transfers, or complications.
- Collaborate with the trauma team to prepare documents for trauma medical peer/case reviews, morbidity and mortality meetings, or other requested meetings.
- Ensure successful verification/designation by collaborating with the Medical Director and Program Manager.
- Lead PI components of the verification/designation process.
- Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency.
- Support department-based goals contributing to the organization's success and serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Indiana. BSN required; master's degree preferred.
- Two to five years of job-related experience in trauma patient care required; leadership experience preferred.
- Must maintain current CPR/BLS and advanced trauma certification (TNCC, TCAR/PCAR, ATCN, TCRN) within 2 years of hire.
- Clinical knowledge and understanding of medical terminology and injured patient care.
- Proficiency in computer skills (data entry, spreadsheets, and presentation software).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, organizing, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) to work with hospital-wide departments and Medical Staff.
- Ability to work in a busy environment with tight deadlines and multiple interruptions.
