GENERAL SUMMARY
-
The Radiology Quality and Staff Development Coordinator is responsible for developing and overseeing radiology quality programs, regulatory requirements, and staff development training. Evaluates programs’ outcomes and works collaboratively with leadership for improvement of safe quality programs and services. Collaborates with leadership to establish and implement processes to support ongoing compliance and survey readiness. Maintains professional competencies by attending educational programs, participates in professional organizations, subscribing to the reading professional journals or other appropriate activities. Reports to department leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Staff Development Coordinator:
-
- Responsible for staff (e.g. technologists, support staff, etc.) development.

Continuing education programs: Designs, provides, and facilitates programs to build upon previously acquired knowledge and skills of the learner, promoting the development of knowledge, skills, and attitudes for the enhancement of patient care practices.

Orientation: Designs and provides an individualized, competency-based orientation to aid new employee’s assimilation to the new environment, duties, and responsibilities, including hospital-wide and department specific components.

In-Service Education Programs: Provides and facilitates instruction programs (didactic, computer-based training, posters, learning modules, etc.) to increase competence specific to imaging services.

Incidental Learning: Identifies and provides opportunities for learning in the clinical setting.

Support: Coaches and mentors emphasizing professional development including the pursuit of further academic education and certification.

- Tracks the progress of employees in the completion of required education and follow up with employees with delayed progress. Keeps the Director/Manager informed of employee progress.

- In partnership with the Radiology Infusion Sedation Nurse educator, conducts a department wide annual education needs assessment in order to guide educational planning initiatives.

- Uses technology to support learning including power point presentations, simulation, electronic learning methods, and other innovative education methods.

- Maintains current radiology/imaging knowledge and skills through formal and informal means.

Quality Coordinator:
-
- Responsible for day-to-day coaching and mentoring, being a role model, providing real-time feedback and counseling, and provides feedback to leadership team.
-
- Responsible for supporting the clinical quality of the department through routine surveillance to include, but not limited to environment of care, continuous survey readiness, documentation (charting), and clinical aspects of real time problem identification and resolution.

Establishes and implements internal audit processes to support proactive safety, compliance, and accreditation survey readiness.

Identifies and investigates process improvement opportunities and deficiencies utilizing evidence base practice.

Product representative for respective areas of specialty.

Develops problem resolution and action plan and develops educational plans as indicated.
-
Anticipates problems and/or barriers and is proactive in their resolution.
-
- Provides support for Radiologists’ quality improvement programs through data collection.
-
- Participates in creating and upholding standards of practice/care. Involved in development of policies and procedures and supports their ongoing implementation and evaluation.

- Actively participates in meetings outside of department as delegated.

- Plans, directs, and coordinates designated programs/services to meet regulatory standards in areas of safety, quality, staff training and development.

- Researches and obtains interpretation of standard compliance requirements related to Radiation Safety, MRI Safety, American College Radiology, DNV, CMS, Federal and State Laws, Virginia Department of Health, and other accrediting agencies.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

Required Licenses and/or Certifications
-
Certification/registration as a Radiologic/Imaging Technologist by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or American Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) required.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Required Education and Experience

Associate or two-year degree in radiography or related field required.
-
3-5 years radiology experience required.

Bachelor’s degree in a radiology or related field preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-
Expert knowledge of general radiology procedures and techniques for obtaining specimens, testing, equipment utilization, radiology regulations, problem solving and computer systems.

Demonstrate performance in teaching, organization, leadership, and communication.
-
Demonstrate performance in quality and process improvement.
-
Demonstrates understanding of patient safety and quality improvement tools.
-
Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with physicians, nursing personnel and other clinicians while reporting and explaining test results, gathering and analyzing information.

Computer skills including knowledge of computerized databases, word processing, and spreadsheet preparation.
-
Ability to travel as required by job role.

WORKING CONDITIONS
-
Clinical patient care environment with minimal exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, or extremes in temperature. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, body fluids and other conditions common to the healthcare environment.
