Maintains accurate and timely data in cancer registry for the hospital’s cancer program in compliance with state laws and regulatory bodies. Reviews and manages data in accordance with Accreditation Standards, recommends data and improvement studies, and tracks longitudinal patient cancer information.
Requirements:
- Certification by National Cancer Registrars Association
- Three to five years tumor registry experience
- Minimum one year application of automated registry systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of ACOS Commission on Cancer requirements
- Ability to read, write and comprehend at 12th grade level
- Associates degree or higher

Major Responsibilities:
1. Collects, summarizes and abstracts clinical oncology information from a variety of internal and external medical data sources directly into tumor registry according to established and regulatory procedures. Reviews the finalized record for errors and completeness. Assures that abstracting and coding abide by appropriate required standards such as AJCC Cancer Staging Manual and Standards for Oncology Registry Entry (STORE).
2. Exercises good judgement and interpretation to best abstract, record or sequence information. Ensures accuracy and quality of data and participates in data quality assurance. Maintains timeliness of abstracting, aiming for concurrent abstracting of data.
3. Creates and completes cancer program reports including the Commission on Cancer Pre-Review Questionnaire (PRQ) and other reports as necessary or requested.
4. Ensures thorough understanding of the American College of Surgeons standards for accredited Commission on Cancer and NAPBC programs.
5. Coordinates, follows and completes Special Studies and data requests by the Commission on Cancer, colleagues, or cancer committee / subcommittees.
6. Follows‑up on all accessioned cases maintained in the cancer registry as required by the standard setters
7. Performs Rapid/Definitive Reporting data to the New Hampshire State Cancer Registry (NHSCR); Data Reporting to the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB) as needed
8. Coordinates and communicates with BILH system ODS-C team members as necessary.
9. Maintains skills and attends educational seminars as required to maintain working knowledge of registry standards.
