POSITION SUMMARY
The Chaplain provides compassionate, inclusive, and interfaith spiritual care and emotional support to patients, families, and staff at Craig Hospital. This role is responsible for assessing spiritual needs, offering trauma-informed, nonjudgmental care, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to integrate spiritual support into patient care.

Rate of Pay: $22.67 - $32.65 per hour based on experience.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Licensure/Certification/Registrations: Tissue Designated Requestor Certification required. Preferred ordination or ecclesiastical endorsement within a religious body. Board-certified or certificate eligible.
- Education: Master of Divinity or equivalent from an accredited theological seminary required. Completion of at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from an ACPE-accredited center. Letter of recommendation from a senior religious leader (e.g., Parish, Synagogue, Conference, Elder Board). Minimum two (2) years’ experience required.
- Experience: Chaplaincy experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Skills & Abilities: Demonstrated knowledge of inclusion, diversity, and trauma-informed care practices.
Proficiency in assessing spiritual well-being, personal meaning, life purpose, and identifying appropriate spiritual and emotional resources. Ability to effectively integrate spiritual goals and interventions into interdisciplinary care plans. In-depth understanding of grief, loss, end-of-life care, and spiritual development across the lifespan. Capacity to offer a reflective, empathetic, and nonjudgmental pastoral presence in diverse clinical settings. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to document and convey information clearly and professionally. Ability to distinguish between spirituality and religion, and to apply each appropriately within the context of holistic care delivery. Sufficient interfaith and cross-cultural knowledge to address the diverse spiritual needs of patients, families, and staff. Skilled in engaging individuals holistically to provide guidance, counseling, and support based on clinical and spiritual principles. Proven ability to minister effectively to individuals from a wide range of cultural, spiritual, and religious backgrounds. Competence in facilitating discussions on sensitive topics, including end-of-life decisions, grief, and organ or tissue donation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assess and plan for the individual spiritual care needs of staff, patients, and families.
- Respond to referrals and initiate spiritual care visits.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and document appropriately in the electronic medical record.
- Provide crisis spiritual support and grief counseling.
- Address end-of-life concerns including advance directives, spiritual distress, and meaning-making.
- Support the spiritual requests and rituals of diverse faiths, including the sacramental needs of Catholic patients (e.g., Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick).
- Foster partnerships with community clergy and faith leaders.
- Promote the values, vision, and mission of Craig Hospital.
- Participate in on-call coverage as needed.
- Support trauma-informed care practices.
